NO!!! Call the 800 number and find out for sure. There was a similar rebate with Express Group (USR g bundle @ Tiger). I sent in 2 envelopes, and Express Group rejected the second rebate. They refused to allow me to re-submit!!! Fortunately, Tiger stepped in and covered the rebate, or else I would have had a long legal battle.

Call TEG and find out the correct protocol. TEG is looking for an excuse to reject your rebate.

Got the last one at the Racine, WI store yesterday. I called just about all the stores in the north 'burbs of Chicago and no go. I beat Clem to mine. ;) People are more concerned about their Combine's and PU trucks up in Racine than computer parts. ;)

I ended up using the $15 off $100 coupon that I received in the mail, so I will get the drive for $80 with tax after the $50 rebate. Not bad. :D

BTW.. It says right on the rebate form that you can get up to $50 back from either of these products. So.. I highly doubt that you can get a rebate for both unless you use a different name and address.

Has anyone tried to flash their drives yet? I read somewhere that this actually does not work and you could ruin your drive.

Still available in Tallahassee. I bought one this morning and there was still one left at the Apalachee Pky store. They had a big sign on the cabinet advertising them as a "special" at $279.99. I asked the clerk to check the price in the system and, there it was, $139.04. I tried to order this online for store pick-up yesterday and they said my stores didn't have any. Lesson learned. Don't trust the online inventory.

Thanks MysticMan1 for the deal! I promised my son a dvd burner for Christmas. (Shoot, I hope he doesn't read this.)
Pssst...$89.04 - $15 = $74.04. :)

You can submit this rebate online at the HP site here.

Apparently this firmware hack is not going to work. link Feel free to post if you have more solid information in English. :D

Also just wanted to add that the HP-300i is a rebadged version of the NEC-1100A according to various posts online.

Anyone remove the case to make this an internal drive?
If you want an internal drive, sell this one and buy an internal drive instead. The external drives are more expensive because of their enclosure. It would be a waste to even attempt to make this an internal drive IMO.

I was asking because someone on FW said they did it. I would like to take this drive and make it internal and put something else in here.

I've done this with a USB 2.0 external CDRW(even ran my 100GB WD drive on it for awhile) ..used the enclosure's electronics(I/O) to test my NEC1300A ..burned a DVD just like it does now in my system :) ..heh..just used the USB 2.0 external with a 60GB Maxtor 7.2k drive just now to test a 5 port USB 2.0 Belkin card worked very well on a WinMe system was fixing and updating for someone :D

Dang, my $15 off 100 won't work: "Coupon not valid for purchases from Tech Depot.....peripherals...."

Oh well, I don't need to waste the money anyway.

If you look thruogh this thread you will see that a number of people by used that $15 off 100 coupon in Office Depot stores without a problem, so go ahead and give it a try.

Techdeport.com is a on-line store run by Office Depot.

I have updated mine to firmware version 3.00. It was 1.25 originally. I burned a DVD+RW after then and everything still worked fine. I saw on the internet that there is already a version 3.10 but HP didn't offer that.
Anybody has info about what was fixed/changed from 1.25 to 3.00?
