Just got back from OM , What a jerk the manager was.
After looking at the page printout from yesterday, when it was still on their site, and some talking,
he gave it to me at the $59.98 price, but insisted he would NOT give me the printed out form for the $20.00 rebate, and tore that up, telling me that rebate would not apply, since I was already getting it cheaper than what's posted in their ad.
What Buttheads.........
Already applied online a few min ago
Is it mentioned in the legal terms and conditions, that the rebate doesn't apply when price-matched? No? Well, that store manager just attempted to defraud you for $20. You might consider contacting your state's AG and complain to them about this incident.
The awful and strange thing is, on 06/05, the web site said, "Save $40 after $40 instant rebate and" (yes, the trailing "and" did look funny), and on 06/06 (after the $20 MIR promotion started), it said "Save $60 after $40 instant rebate and $20 mail-in rebate". So for at least one of the days, the web site clearly contained a legal offer from OfficeMax, that included both the instant and the mail-in rebate, with savings totalled together, that would clearly imply that they were
intended to be combined together.
What that manager did was offensive, disgraceful, and totally unprofessional. Why would he make a scene, disrespecting the customer and intentially showing poor customer service, by effectively "stealing" $20 from a customer, right after the customer purchased something at his (manager's) store?
Do most managers pick the pockets of customers on the way out? Maybe I should be more careful when I get close to those reciept-checkers at some of the other stores, perhaps this is a trend.
Edit: Correction - the exact web site terms were "For a limited time, Save up to $60 with $40 Instant Rebate and $20 Mfr's Mail-in Rebate. Mail-in Valid 06/06 - 06/12 Only. Click here for rebate information." (still had page open in other browser window)
Given the fact that the $20 MIR was a mfg one, not a store rebate, that makes the manager's actions all the more despicable. He wasn't protecting OM's profits at all, he was outright trying to hurt the customer financially by denying the customer the ability to send away for the rebate.
