I picked up a stick of free ram at the Riverside, CA location. I just stuck it into my computer and it booted up as PC2700. Nice deal!

Jmman,
If your dad works at Spectek, can you ask him if the PC2700 sticks sold as PC2100 are "rejects" or are they basically the same since the I2C information indicates they *are* PC2700?

Those will work great in my new AK35GT2 motherboard (oldie, I know, but goodie) with that cheap Tbred-B 2100+ XP from newegg!

I know staples matches prices after rebates, but how do they handle things if the price after rebates is.....0?

At the end of the day all Spectek chips are Micron rejects..... When Micron tests their modules, some of them invariably don't pass. They then give them to Spectek who tests them and removes the chips individually to see which one was bad. They then build a module out of it, and sell it for a lower price. As far as these modules, they are tested and burned in for something like 12 hours, which is far longer than Micron actually tests them for. My dad says the quality of all of their modules is great since they undergo such a stringent testing procedure. As far as the modules, he told me that PNY and others requested large quantities of PC2100 and they didn't have enough to meet the demand, so they substituted PC2700 modules for a similar price. He told me that some of these had their SPD reprogrammed to PC2100 specs even though they are using PC2700 6ns chips, so I guess YMMV on these. I purchased a couple of these same chips from PNY and they were programmed to register as PC2100 even though they had 6ns chips. These from Kbyte are registering as PC2700 though. As far as being decent PC2700, many oem systems builders use these exact same PC2700 modules in their systems, so they must be pretty good.

good deal for those who got in on it, I can't find a single 20/100 rebate anywhere that is still valid, I think "the jig" is up for OMax on that one. Oh, well it's not like I really needed all that stuff anyway, the extra cdr's are always nice and the ram though.

So is it safe to assume that if you got the Spectek stick and it say -6A it's actually PC2700 and will run as such? This is all they had at my OM.

Is it ok to run this with the K-Byte 512MB PC2700 stick from BB?

No, don't assume that because it says specteck, its pc2700, my friend and I just bought chips today, they both say specteck, and they're both pc2100

grrr, I was hoping you wouldn't say that.

The number on my stick says

AE 0303
S80032VMCTW
-6A

Did anyone else get these numbers and is it showing up as PC2700? I don't want to use it if it's PC2100.

But don't assume that because it says 2100 on the box that it's limited to PC2100. Also as jmman indicated above, some PC2700 sticks have been "reprogrammed" to lie to your motherboard so that they say they're PC2100 (in which case Sandra would also indicate 2100 since it simply reads the text programmed in the stick).

The -6A chips indicate that they are PC2700 aka DDR333 (166x2), see this link: http://www.spectek.com/pdfs/32_64MX64DDR.PDF

So unless the chips on the stick are out of specs, chances are it will run fine at PC2700 speeds.

The proof is in the pudding, stick them in, set your memory speed to 166x2 and run Sandra, or any other benchmarking/stress test and see if it works.

Could these pc2700 chips be fine at 2100 speeds, but not quite up to par at 2700 speeds since they are Micron rejects?

I'll have to check if have -6a on them, but I tried running mine at 166, the computer would crash.

I just got some of this at the local B&M O Max , tho I'm not a fan of K-byte ram. Mine is in fact Spacetec pc2700 6a chips, running it right now @ 166 2-2-2
made a couple loops of Sandra burn in, seems to be fine. much better than the last 2 stick of this stuff I got with Elixier chips.

Got my stuff (minus cordless phone) delivered today.

Anyone else get the wrong CD-R's? I ordered Hi-Val CD-R's and the receipt gives a SKU of 20068800 and UPC of708766013042, which is correct. However, I got I/O Magic discs, which don't even show up on the website. They have a UPC of 708766014025, which is close but obviously not the same. Anyone else get these, or know if they are a valid substitution. I haven't paid for a CD-R in 2 years, and I'm not about to pay $20 for these!

Also, I notice that www.easierrebate.com wants a receipt number. If I ordered online I would get a "customer delivery receipt", so where would the receipt number be? Would it be the order number or another number?

You can call easierrebate.com 1-877-458-3966 and ask them, but I think it's the number next to where it says "customer delivery receipt" 0714 00523 xxxxx 9

Are the I/O Magic discs the Khypermedia 100-Pack CD-Rs ? if so they have 2 $12 rebates on them so make sure you were only charged $24 for the CD-Rs to make them free.

If you peel the sticker back on the -6A chips you will probably see another sticker that says PC2700, at least it did on mine.

Cherub,

Same thing happened with my e-order; two of the three CD-R spindles were the wrong manufacturer. But, like you, my order form shows the correct SKU so I'm sending in the rebate with a note explaining that they sent me the wrong item and I expect to get refunded anyway since it's an OfficeMAX rebate offer and not from the manufacturer.

Wish me luck!

I also received the I/O Magic 48X discs

Hate it when they swap and don't tell you what to do...

Interesting though- a search on OM site for "magic"
yields (among I/O Magic stuff) Hi-Val disks!

Hi-val and I/O Magic are the same company, but I still worry about rebate companies knowing what to do when the UPC and rebate specs don't match. So I went to a B&M and swapped for the Imation 100 pack.
