OfficeMax had the Cendyne drive *last week* for $50 with a $30 mail in rebate which, after the $25 coupon and other FAR stuff ended up being free. I bought one, and I'm sure enough others bought them so that the Cendynes are probably out of stock. I haven't opened the box, and have no idea what kind of drive is in it. The outside of the box doesn't say SmartBurn or JustLink or anything--looks like they've wised up. The drive model is 4816P, if that means anything to anybody.
I did, however, call today and get the Verbatim drive, an FRS radio, 100 Hi-Val CD-Rs, canned air and the old reliable paper clips. Total cost with sales tax (6%) was $80. Total of six rebates (30+20+17+8+10+4) was $89. If they all get here, I'll be ahead $9 - $1.48 postage (three of the six rebates go in one envelope).
If you really want to turn up your nose at the prospect of OM paying you to take Verbatim drive, however, you can get a free 52X Buslink drive from Staples today. It is $70 with ONE $50 rebate, and with FAR stuff and a $25 off $100 coupon, it too is free, or darned close. I ordered one of these, also (as part of a deal that cost $96, with $86 in rebates). The last Buslink CD-RW I got said SmartBurn on the front of the box, and the picture in the ad shows the sticker in the same place.
