I've tried to mail 1st class with DC a couple of times, and what I noticed was when I sent flat mail, they didn't let me, but the one time that I had bubble mail, they allowed it.

Since 1st class is so cheap, as is DC, what you need to do to use DC is to have a package 3/4" thick. Basically, mail the rebate in a bubble wrap or toss a packing peanut into the envelope then mail off. No DC on flat mail, they tell me.

Score. I ended up getting a 20 dollar gift certificate from them, for their mistake, on future purchases. Hey, it's better than nothing. So it ended up being: $189 - $20(IR) - $20(Online $20 off $100 IR) - $50 MIR = $99 + tax, and a $20 dollar gift certificate. It pays to call and demand things. Cheers.

Add the online $20 off $100 coupon. :)

As people reported in this thread, there are problems entering this coupon as it still says $.00 in cart even though the hard drive is there. GET CREATIVE! ;)

If you add $100 of other things (like boxes of paper) it will let you add the coupon. When you go into the store to pick it up, tell them you changed your mind and want to return the other items. Since it is a $20 of $100 coupon, it should have no impact on being able to use the coupon.

The only problem you may run into is having a physical copy of the coupon. If you are lucky, they will not ask for it. Fortunately, I got an actual e-mailed one direct from OD.

The other option is to take a physical coupon from Staples or OM, as some OD's accept competitor's coupons.
As with all things, ymmv.

I got the drive - here is my story:

I tried to order it online with an in-store pickup.
However, the coupon code I had did the .00 in cart thing.
But the big downer was that the 4 stores that are within 50 miles of me all showed as out of stock.
Which was weird because I swore I saw some a couple of days before.

Anyways, I took my Staples $30 off $150 printed coupon that I got from their email newsletter and took it to one of the OD's.
I asked the manager if he accepted competitor's coupons, he said sure but he needed to verify it was legit and he called Staples.
After a few minutes he said OK and I proceeded with the checkout.

$170 - $20 IR = $150 - $30 (Competitor Coupon) = $120+tax - $50 MIR = roughly $80 Final :)

P.S.
I may go back and question this $70 rebate misprint ;)

By the way, these look to be the 80GB per platter drives, which makes them pretty fast.
59.2 MB/sec Begin Read & 33.7 MB/sec End Read
Plus the audio levels are only 41.0 dB/A@0.7" so its very quiet too!

I guess the way you can tell - according to here. The read/write heads amount can be figured out by the 2nd digit of the serial number. The 80gb drives (6Y080L0) has a serial number of Y2TPNN7E, the 2 denotes the amount of read write heads. This supposedly means 1 read/write head for each side of a platter. My serial has a 4 there - so the logic dictates I have 2 platters.

Also the drives have the newer firmaware of YAR41VW0 and it was manufactured in May of 2003.

NICE DRIVE FOR THE MONEY!

** THREAD REMOVED **

Never mind about $70 BBY rebate. They are expired. Sorry for the confusion.

No Office Depot around here. I used to work for them before they moved out of New England area. The closest one is in State of NY. Spend $20 on the gas money to save $20 on the drive. It's not worth the in-store pickup.

There is one read/write head for each side of the platter. 1 platter/2 heads - 2 platters/4 Heads
