Yes I'm to lazy to link. You still have to have them ship to a FFL dealer.

Using AnandTech to purchase/sell firearms IS NOT AND WILL NOT be permitted. UNDERSTAND???

DO NOT ruin this for everyone else.

Stop trying to make up rules that aren't in the

OFFICIAL rules post

---

Thank you for your insight. Posting to request assistance with an illegal act is against FEDERAL rules. I did not think we had to post the entire U.S. Criminal Code for that to be obvious. Guess I overestimated the intelligence of some members... YOU, for example. :|

What is the illegal act?

There is nothing illegal about internet sales of firearms. I even order guns using the phone. The only caveat is that the actual transfer( read delivery) must be done through a Federal Firearms License(FFL) holder(dealer).

But the purchase and sale can be done in any way, shape or form. The background check is done at the time of the transfer from the FFL to you.

So I don't see how there was any discussion, what so ever, about any laws being broken or "request assistance with an illegal act".

Spacejamz,

Can you please clarify what you mean by a "random check"? You are either "approved", "denied" or "delayed". I've never heard of a "random check".

Thanks.

Anybody who asks a question like this is one of those "stupid people" and should not own a gun. You give knowledgeable owners a bad name!

You also need to take a basic english class.

I've never understood why people feel the need to keep a .45 or even a 9mm under their pillow for self defense. I keep a small Beretta .22 in my nightstand and figure that if I'm ever going to be shooting it at someone indoors, it will probably be max 10 yards and will probably sting enough to make them look for the exits - at the same time, I don't have to worry about wiping out my neighbor because a stray bullet went through two walls.

Maybe there's something I'm missing, but aren't a lot of these bigger guns overkill for such "home-protection" work?

I have a .40 cal Sig Pro and believe it has enough power to bring someone down for home protection. I've been thinking of buying a .38 or maybe even a short barrel pistol-grip 12 guage for my wife while I travel for work... that should work just fine!

I use to take the Sig and a 9mm Ruger to a firing range with my father-in-law when I lived back in TX. I always enjoyed target practice, plus I got to fire his Baretta 9mm, Ruger 357 Magnum, his new .45 Glock, and others he liked to bring. I gotta find a firing range in the Portland area as I haven't fired my Sig in over a year.

FWIW, you're a lot more dangerous with that .22 than the .45 if you are concerned about shooting through walls. Speed and bullet diameter make the .22 like a dart. The pawn shop here has a hole on the other side of the building where a pistol some dingo didn't unload went through two walls and then outside.

.45 just doesn't have the velocity to keep going since it's larger and is able to dump its enegry in the first thing it hits.

Not mention that you're more liable to just piss off whoever you're shooting at that with that .22. Shot placement would have to be extremely precise. Considering you're more likely to startled and groggy when awoken suddenly in the night, that's not likely to happen.

.22 pocket pistols are great for assassins or catching someone off guard, but for defensive purposes, I'd want something abit more powerful, like maybe a 9mm or even a .38spl.

For home defense, I keep a S&W 686 .357 loaded with Glasers myself. Sometimes, my Colt 1911 (.45ACP 'natch).

I'd hate to be up against a hyped up crackhead with a .22. .38 wadcutter and hollow points should typically do the trick but still limit wall penitration. (I hope) Of course I dont shoot until I know what I'm shooting and have a good shot and know whats behind the target. once again (I hope)
Gee wouldn't life be grand if people would stop putting us in the position to need to kill them. How about we all hold hands and wish real hard. (then all go vote for John Kerry)

To slickone: I have a Kel-tec, nice little gun. ITs shockingly simple and very reliable. My 9mm p-11 is very light. I'd carry it if I wasn't in the oppressive state of CA.

What if that just pisses it off?
I'd feel a lot safer if I had both a non-lethal shooter to try to scare it with, and also something like a desert eagle on the off chance that the lion doesn't respond well.

oh and yeah...super tough gun control laws here in NYC means I can't own a handgun, period. They have crazy requirements for a permit, which pretty much only a few select people will ever meet.
Oh well.

Why must you own a gun? I believe they should not be sold to the public as they are dangerous even when handled "carefully," whatever that means. Guns kill people and should be banned.

People kill people. Just because an idiot kills someone , everyone else shouldn`t suffer by a gun ban. With a ban only the killers would gave guns and noone would leagally have anything to protect themselfs with.

Woah - I have 5 guns and they haven't killed anyone yet. They just sit in the safe until I take them to the range. My dad has at least 20 in his collection and his haven't killed anyone either. I guess they all must be defective, huh?
Or maybe they're sneaking out at night and killing people on the sly.

self bump as this is the last day for this deal...actually, those were not actual coupons in the paper (they sure looked like 'em though), so you should be able to get this deal w/o the ad from the paper.

maybe 'delayed' might be the result of the random check. From the guy at Oshman's I talked to, he specifically mentioned that I might be subject to a random check after I filled out the paperwork.

You know what would be really fun and safe at the same time?

Having a real gun dual with your favorite pistols all the while wearing body armor. It would be just like the movies.

Anyone try this with their best friends or family members?

BTW, where can I get clips with extra 15+ rounds clips for a Glock 17?

There's always a hater in every crowd....lol... and why would u talk junk to someone in a gun owner thread.... hater.....get a life

They are tools..and tools have to have operators (intentional or unintentional) to do good/harm.

Amen, and also in PA the permit requirements are pretty lenient. I got mine after a 3 week wait and couldn't be happier. I live in south philly and if u ever came by my block you'd wish you had yours too.
Now wheres that button to summon the JPS spellcheck system...

My understanding is that "delayed" is caused by a "possible" match or some information that "might" indicated a disqualifying record.

If your name is close to a felon's name, you may get delayed while they do a more through check.

Random check is not part of the NICS check, AFAIK.
