Dead Notebook.. Need to get Data from HD!

Ok so my Compaq Notebook which has been on its last leg for a while finally died. It is a power issue as that has always been the problem. To make a long story short I have a lot of data that I still want from the notebook's HD. I have a cheap little 2.5" HD Enclosure. Can I use that for getting my data from my notebook's hd? Do I just plug it in and that should do it or are there more steps? Thanks for your help in advance!

Uhm...what else would you do with a 2.5 inch drive enclosure and a hard drive?
