(Dead)Norton SystemWorks 2006 + Personal Firewall 2006 Make ~$20AR

I saw this post for the expired Outpost deal, but didn't see this deal at Staples. Staples has the NSW 2006 & NPF 2006 bundle free after rebate (requires proof of previous ownership of any Symantec or competitor software). However, they're also running their 12% customer appreciation sale so you can make about $4 after tax.

To make filling out the form easier, just go to the Symantec Rebate Center and fill out your information for both rebates (05-36455 & 05-38407). Unfortunately the upgrader rebate requires the PoP from both titles so you can't double dip on upgrader rebates like the NAV/GoBack BF bundle 🙁.

I suppose you could try for the upgrader rebates from the separate titles (but YMMV) instead of the $30 upgrader rebate for the bundle. NPF 2006 05-36447 ($20) & NSW 2006 05-36451 ($20). I don't know if the extra $10 is worth it.
Edit: I read the terms for the upgrade rebate and it looks like you only need to send in the PoP from NSW so you should be able to also get the $20 upgrader rebate for NPF.
Edit2: Another deal 1/15-1/21
Edit3: Dead

Alive again next week. Both upgrader rebates are valid so you can make $20 (minus tax), but I already did the deal last month so I'm out. I read a rumor on FW that you were allowed 3 upgrade rebates per address instead of 1. Anyone know?

You could not pay me to take anything Norton. It is such a bloated software and memory hog. I now use Avast Anti-virus and Outpost Pro Firewall. Much better combination, in my opinion, and much less CPU and memory usage.

I used to support Norton from the DOS version up to 2004 version. In 2003-2004, I noticed extreme memory and CPU usage in their Systemworks and Internet Security packages. So I gave up with 2004 version and uninstalled it. This is on a 3GHz gaming system, btw. Without it installed, it is blazing fast. Their Corporate Anti-virus still is okay, but not the consumer version. It too can slow your system to a crawl. Norton needs to stop adding features, and completely rewrite the engine to their software, and eliminate all the bloat. Until then, I am very satisfied with Avast and Outpost Pro.

From everything I read about NSW 2006, you may want to think twice about actually installing it. Making money on a deal is nice, no one said you actually have to use the product to get a rebate 🙂 I just installed NSW 2005 a few weeks ago rather than go to 2006.

Heed the warning from Melectricus!!!

I had NSWP2005 and NIS 2005 installed and made about $20 on the staples deal a while back. (coupons, etc).

When I installed NIS2006 and NSWP2006 my system screeched to a halt. Boot up took about 3 minutes (I have a Athlon 64 3500+ venice with 1GB 2-2-2-5 PC3200 RAM). It used to take about 35 seconds. I had to go through all kinds of crap (rnisup, symnrt, etc) from the symantec website to remove all remnants of the '06 products.

DANGER WILL ROBINSON!!

Avoid the 2006 Norton products at all costs (unless you are running a 400GHz system with 20GB of ram and don't care about speed).

I install NSW 2005 and it deactivates ms antispyware agents and remove all the agents check points, I now use Vcom fix-it pro 6.
Anyone encounter this issue ?

I agree. I use AVG free myself.

If you received your business rewards check today, there's a $20 coupon for this bundle so you can make an extra $20 (assuming they give everyone the same set of coupons). Sorry for the late post; you'll probably have to buy this online now.
