At this rate I think it'd be cheaper to buy a time machine and get a Gaming machine from 10 years in the future. :hmm:
The best way to save on PC gaming is to build up a huge backlog of games so that you always have something to play. While you keep playing the older games that are less GPU demanding, prices on GPUs keep dropping/similar level of performance becomes more affordable and faster GPUs keep launching. At the same time, you don't get ripped off by high prices of launch games + DLC.
Using CAD prices from Steam for me:
FO4 = $79.99 + $39.99 DLC ~ $120 CAD
Rainbow 6 Siege = $79.99 + $39.99 Season Pass ~ $120 CAD
X-Com 2 = $79.99 or $94.99 with DLC ~ $95 CAD
Rise of the Tomb Raider = $69.99 or $102.98 with Season Pass = $103 CAD
The Division = $79.99 or $129.99 with DLC = $130 CAD
Far Cry Primal = $80 CAD
Doom = $80 CAD
Deus Ex Mankind Divided = $70 CAD
MGS V = $75 CAD
GTA V = $70 CAD
Far Cry 4 = $70 + $30 Season Pass = $100 CAD
Just Cause 3 = $99 CAD with all the DLC
Hitman = $70
AC Syndicate = $120 with DLC
Total: $1,332 !
That's just a small fraction of games. Every single one of these games will eventually fall to $10-20 max. So let's say, 14 games x $20 = $280, a savings of almost $1000 on just 14 games.
I always say that the real high cost of PC gaming is software, not hardware. Now imagine buying 15-20 new AAA games with all the content per year for 10 years. That easily amounts to the cost of an entry level car. If you have the patience to wait for PC game sales, you save on both ends --> software and GPU upgrades. If you don't have to play the latest and greatest games on day 1, this is a solid way to save A LOT of $ on PC gaming.
