I just looked up XFX's warranty page here- http://xfxforce.com/en-us/support/xfx-warranty and correct me if I'm reading this wrong, the limited lifetime or extra year warranty does not apply to newer cards. I was going to bite on the XFX R9 380X model R9-380X-4255 if the extended warranty was available.

Yeah... XFX's warranty is pretty much the same as the others now, since the miners abused the heck out of the old warranty.

No more lifetime, UNLESS you buy at BestBuy.

For example, one person, one bad card, we replace it, no big deal... but early last year we started seeing RMA's of 10+ cards, which was unheard of for an end user...in 1 month, one user RMA'd over 40 cards, modified bios, fans were dirty... it was a total mess.

Unfortunately, the lifetime warranty was designed to protect the ideal GPU buyer: someone who's a gamer and who uses it for extended periods of time, but never 24/7 with modified bios settings for months at a time.

The 200 series and Best Buy 300 series have lifetime warranties for now... Once the 200 series sells off and goes EOL, I fear the lifetime warranty coverage will shrink even more.

Anyway, the lifetime warranty is a big part of XFX and our commitment to our community, losing part of it was a huge loss to our team, as well as our customers."

When I was mining, I had my cards running at stock voltages and not at max overclocked speeds but I guess some users squeezed every last drop of performance out of them. I could easily see some guy putting 1.3V into the GPU for that last 50mhz GPU clocks. :(

Just to clarify, I have used gpu's for DC projects, but never have rma'd any that had died from DC abuse.

BTW, this is still cheaper at jet.com, NO rebates.
$215.38 - "15now" (15% off first time customer) = $183.07
https://jet.com/product/XFX-Radeon-...sFireX-Suppo/483749a6999149f282acaeec4c5d4604
is the card.
If you happen to have the Jet.com Amex promo, then knock another $20 off, for a total of $163.07.
If you want to stay with newegg, then it will be $210 - $10(rebate) - $25 (Amex promo) for $175

This is also back in stock at jet.com... however, the price has gone up, but, now you get to use the 'Get20Off' code to get it back within $1 and change of old price.

New total is:
Price Subtotal
$230.38

Extra Savings
$0.00

Get20Off
-$46.08

Shipping Fee
FREE

Order Total
$184.30
(and for those that still didn't use the AMEX $20 promo for jet.com)
$164.30
You can also take off an additional $5.07 if you wave the 'free returns', so, a grand total of either $179.23 or $159.23 (AMEX).

I bought this card at $229 for a xmas gift for my son. If this deal was going on I could've got the 240gb SSD instead of the 120SSD for his new gaming build. Oh well. He has this running with i5-6500 and it looks great. Runs cool and is a lot quieter than the HD5850 it replaced.

Congrats! Let us know how you like the card in terms of noise levels and temps. For under $200, there isn't anything faster out right now and unfortunately team green has no direct competitor which limits consumer choices for new GPUs in this pricing segments to just 280X or 380X. That's why I always stress how important it is to have strong competition.

Here let me make you feel better with some examples.

Spring 2013, 780 cost $650 and in 5 months that level of perfomrance was available in a $400 290. That's $250 flushed into the toilet in 6 months for 780 owner.

November 2013, $699 780Ti => 10 months later that level of performance is available in a $330 970, 3 more months and after-market 290X dropped to $300.

16GB DDR4 2133-2400 was $280-300 US when it came out around August 2014. Today you can buy 16GB DDR4 3200mhz for $105.

And my personal example, when I bought my 7970s, each cost $400 US and you are getting a faster GPU for almost half. :thumbsup:

At this rate I think it'd be cheaper to buy a time machine and get a Gaming machine from 10 years in the future. :hmm:

The best way to save on PC gaming is to build up a huge backlog of games so that you always have something to play. While you keep playing the older games that are less GPU demanding, prices on GPUs keep dropping/similar level of performance becomes more affordable and faster GPUs keep launching. At the same time, you don't get ripped off by high prices of launch games + DLC.

Using CAD prices from Steam for me:

FO4 = $79.99 + $39.99 DLC ~ $120 CAD
Rainbow 6 Siege = $79.99 + $39.99 Season Pass ~ $120 CAD
X-Com 2 = $79.99 or $94.99 with DLC ~ $95 CAD
Rise of the Tomb Raider = $69.99 or $102.98 with Season Pass = $103 CAD
The Division = $79.99 or $129.99 with DLC = $130 CAD
Far Cry Primal = $80 CAD
Doom = $80 CAD
Deus Ex Mankind Divided = $70 CAD
MGS V = $75 CAD
GTA V = $70 CAD
Far Cry 4 = $70 + $30 Season Pass = $100 CAD
Just Cause 3 = $99 CAD with all the DLC
Hitman = $70
AC Syndicate = $120 with DLC

Total: $1,332 !

That's just a small fraction of games. Every single one of these games will eventually fall to $10-20 max. So let's say, 14 games x $20 = $280, a savings of almost $1000 on just 14 games.

I always say that the real high cost of PC gaming is software, not hardware. Now imagine buying 15-20 new AAA games with all the content per year for 10 years. That easily amounts to the cost of an entry level car. If you have the patience to wait for PC game sales, you save on both ends --> software and GPU upgrades. If you don't have to play the latest and greatest games on day 1, this is a solid way to save A LOT of $ on PC gaming.

File this under Hmm...

Friend ordered the 380X mentioned here, except from Jet.com, and it arrived today.
Thing is, the box it came in was from Newegg?
It was also shipped by FedEx, and I thought Newegg only used UPS?

The Jet deal is dead, they now list same card for $350, and even with a 20% off coupon, that is WAY overpriced!

Anyone else get this card from Jet, and it came from Newegg?

Yep. Had gotten an email from Jet saying they were out of stock, but would supply the card from one of their suppliers. Looks like Jet may be an offshoot of NewEgg. Receipt mentioned nothing about Jet.com.

And for the people wondering about how the GTX 670 compared to this XFX 380X on Assassin's Creed Sydicate, I had rebuilt stepson's box with an overclocked I7 920, 12GB ram and a 240GB ssd. I ran fraps and just wandered around at the start of ACS, didn't really play the game as it was on the bench. Framefrates were 75 with the GTX670 but were just 60ish for the 380X.

All I did was load the latest drivers for both cards, and ACS was updated with the latest patches. No tweaking at all.
