I have the TBSC in one machine, SoundStorm in another. The diiference is negligible -- they're both excellent sound solutions.

TBSC is a great buy at this price, if you're in need of a rock-solid, 5.1-capable soundcard that's trouble-free and doesn't suck the life out of your CPU.

I have an ASUS A7N266-VM Mobo...how do I know if it is nForce or nForce 2 because I know it is one of the two. Also, is there anyway that regular nForce can handle 5.1? Would sound quality be a lot greater comparing an nForce and a Santa Cruz??

nForce 1's APU and nForce 2's were the same. Many nForce 2 boards had SPDIF though. I think the A7N266-VM was an nForce 1 (the one with Geforce 2 MX400 integrated and without 1394).

Same APU = similar to Santa Cruz. I'd probably jump on this or wait out a CC TBSC retail $40 deal cuz my SB128 digital died just a little while ago, but I decided to get an nForce2 board (8RDA+).

apparently, compusa has this for $40 no rebates starting 8-17-03 in-store only 1 wk special... read on FW

thanx for the reply ionizer86 but i was also wondering if there was any way this nForce 1 could be 5.1 enabled? And if it was, would there be any reason to get the Santa Cruz ( I mostly use for mp3's, divx, dvd's etc.)

Picked up a TBSC retail box on the way to work today. It was ,as in the ad ,$39.99. The next Best price I have seen is Newegg for $45 shipped for a OEM. Thanks.

Got one at CompUSA too. I tried to pricematch at Circuit City to get that extra 10% off, but the CUSA ad had a mistake - it said 7.1 channel sound, and the dorkos at CC wouldn't believe me that it's the same card. There's never been a 7.1 channel SC.

Oh well, got one at $40 - which is a great price for a great card.

If it was 7.1, CUSA'd be selling a superior product to CC's and CC should have all the more reason to allow PM's on their inferior product 😉

I don't know why you're having trouble downloading from their site nor do I know where you can get them elsewhere.

However I did notice that this release is for the Retail version only not OEM? I wonder why?

I bought the oem from newegg before this was posted & downloaded the 'updated' drivers for it. Worked great for about 3 days then my computer kept freezing up & kicking me outta my os. Guess your resopnse answers that!

I'll have to use the disc that newegg sent with it I guess.

The deal @ cusa is much better in more ways than one! 😉

Ok. I've been trying this card out, and have to say it is a lot better sounding then my old SBLive! I switched back and forth from Santa Cruz to SBLive, and played various MP3's, and CD's. The Santa Cruz has a much richer and fuller sound compared to the SBLive. The SBLive seems to have a very tinny sound. I wouldn't have believed it, if I didn't listen to the difference myself!
Now if only Turtle Beach will develop a new 24Bit/96KHz card!

btw...Where are the DOS drivers for the Santa Cruz? I tried the TBCDOS.EXE file, but it can't read the initialization file. Where are the DOS drivers for pure DOS? This card says it should have SBPro support in DOS.

update...

I'm having second thoughts on this card. MP3's and CD's sound perfect. A lot better than my SBLive. But I can't get any of my games to sound as good as they were with my SBLive. I tried the drivers on CD, and the updated drivers on the website. Whenever I enable EAX in my games, the sound is very muddy sounding. And if I turn off the audio effects in game, the games sound very dull. The sound effects also cut in and out in Diablo II. Almost like there are not enough voicestreams on the card. I have it set to 64. Games I've tested: Diablo II, Serious Sam I & II, Unreal Tournament, UT 2003, Startopia, Half Life. Can anyone confirm how their games sound? I really want to give this card a chance, but if the reverb(EAX) is muddy...

TB is out of the SC business - so I doubt we will see anything new from them 😉
