(dead) Newegg refurb Celerons (P3s really) $48+ almost gone

I normally don't post Newegg refurbs, but Newegg has several of the latest Celeron 1.0GHz + CPUs in refurb for around $50. These are not your Grandma's Celeron, in that they are basically a P3 chip, not a Celeron of old. What I like about these as opposed to Duron is that they are not as picky about power supply and they run cooler.

They will probably go quick, but they have stayed up remarkably long for a refurb deal, so maybe not as hot as I think.
 
How can a CPU be refurbed? Refurbed means that the product didn't work, and the manufactor fixed it, then sold it again.
Maybe they are USED??

 
You can get a 950mhz amd tbird socket A processor here for 45 bucks. The Amd tbirds preform much better than any celeron if I'm not mistaken 🙂
 
If you want a decently fast system without all the NOISE of a Duron/T-bird fan, then this is an excellent deal.

The 1.1 GHz also overclock well, even with standard cooling.

Anyone know if these Celeron's will run in my trusty BH6? Or what would be a good value priced choice for a motherboard?
 
They run in my bx6 soyo board. Just make sure that its a FCPGA and not an FCPGA2. Since the multiplier is "locked" it doesn't matter if your BIOS goes to 10x

With newegg, a refurb is usualy somthing a customer decided they didn't want and returned to newegg instead of returning it because it was broken. They can't sell it as new, so they sell it as a refurb.

Newegg has some of these in the refurb section again. If you buy one with a "BX..." in the description, you are most likely getting a retail box with heatsink/fan. I ordered one last week and it worked perfect. When I first looked at it, the CPU was very sloppily coated with some white thermal paste. I cleaned everything up and it worked beautiful. The FC-PGA 2 chips are fantastic because they use the .13 die so they run very cool. Were talking hardly ever going over 27c. The FC-PGA 2 chips also have a nice protective metal cap so you aren't fooling directly with the CPU die.

These will be gone fast.

I just picked up a refurbished retail version of the Celeron 1.1A for $48.75 and an OEM version of the same CPU for $48 and free shipping.
 
man, too bad I order a retail 1.2ghz celery for $74 the night before. Could have saved me like $20. Oh well Intel has a good warranty.

I bought 2 Celerons last week. One (1.2Ghz)came with thermal tar all over it (literally, I tried every chemical in the house to get that stuff off) and the other (1.3Ghz) came in a retail box (w/HSF) and looked like it hadn't even been touched, just opened. Both run OK...I think.
 
I bought a refurb video card from newegg and it turns out dead on arrival.
So newegg might not test their return real well and resell it
 
I have purchase the ATI VIVO and the ATI 8500 refurbed from newegg and they have worked great, so you may just have had bad luck rml.
 
I once bough an XP1900+ from their refurbished section; I ended up getting a BRAND NEW, completely unopened & sealed, retail processor. I guess they must have either ran out of stock but honored my order due to a system delay/error, or anything returned to them is automatically considered "open box item" (aka refurbished in Newegg's vocabulary).

I also bought a celeron 1.3 Ghz OEM from their refurbished section in the past, and also a few video cards, and never had any problem. My friend did buy a Radeon 7500 that didn't work properly, so it is probably true they do not thouroughly test returned products (they probably do it based on the customer's reason for return).

The Celeron Tualatin 1.0A and 1.1A (both FCPGA2 models) are generally very good overclockers and almost all will do 133Mhz FSB with even the retail HSF. The 1.3 won't hit 133FSB unless you have watercooling (and crazy high voltage).
