Thought I heard that this particular card is a lot quieter than run-of-the-mill 290s...

Damn nice price. Was $250 just a few weeks ago. $230 is super slick. Would totally jump on this if I didn't have watercooled 290 already. At this price it's a much better deal than 970.

Looks like the visa checkout isn't working...

EDIT: looks like you can only use this deal once per email account. Had to use another email.

I hopped on this deal.

How are the AMD drivers?

For single GPU under Windows, AMD drivers have been fine since HD4850 days. Obviously there are going to be games from both NV and AMD that have issues. Also, new games often need driver updates to fix bugs for both camps. It's impossible to say if you will have a driver issue with AMD/NV in X game out of 10000 PC games over 30 years. I see games that run faster on NV and those that run faster on AMD. I would say both AMD and NV drivers under Windows are very comparable overall. I would give a slight edge to NV for things like custom resolution and DSR. But at such a low price for an R9 290, there is no way I would buy the 970. I would rather put aside $100-140 and upgrade again in 2 years with some of that money saved.

I was able to get a game voucher. When I ordered these they processed so fast I couldn't cancel (I was going to cancel and get the 2 xfx 290x's instead as you can use two rebates on those where only one per house on these plus they had the vouchers so I was going to sell one bringing the cost fairly close if I had to purchase a voucher on ebay) so newegg CS on the phone (not in chat) was able to just comp me a voucher. They hooked me up with one. Although I did buy 2 cards to get one voucher, I really only needed one of them.

Thanks newegg.

Seriously? Competition man. 970/980

But dropping more than $100 below the 970? 970 is an amazing card no doubt, but $100 better? AMD isn't supposed to be releasing anything new until the 370x/380x/390x series in 2015, are they? They already shot down the R9 285x rumor.
