I ordered my drive on the 1st oct and just received it today. WOO HOO.

Here's the great deal. Dell authorized the credit card when i ordered, after a week the authorization dropped and the money was put back into my account. I used my Visa "debit" card.

Hell it's been almost 2 months, I recently 2 weeks ago switched banks since mine was charging for checking. I have the sony drive, Dell get's nothing.

Which is fair since they jerked me around for so long!!!!!!

sweet tedinde1...dare ya to post that on dell's official support forums with your cust#...just kidding.

I doubt I'll ever see mine. Not in this lifetime. Maybe I'll get a 250GB Maxtor drive before I get this dvd-burner.
(note: I just say the above trying a reverse psychological trick on me..however, it might not work as it seems to be true).

Here's that official Dell support forum thread about this whole fiasco.

Well, whaddya know, after I posted my info to the Dell customer service forum yesterday, my $253 DRU-500A order from 10/1 shipped today.

Coincidence?

Steve

Edit: Unit was received today. Item appeared to have shipped from Lawnside NJ? Got here in 1 day.

I was actually going to call them today, because i read last night people were actually getting their drives, I havent checked this thread in a week, But i wasnt going to give up on dell, I've answered all of their 3 confirmations about cancelling.

Im glad i didnt call them a week ago and update my credit card info.

I ordered a linksys router also maybe 2 days later than the burner on the 3rd, It's still says in production. Used deals and coupons, WTF.

Screw em.

FYI - Dell will still get their money either way and you will still pay in the end.

Since you conducted this transaction with a debit card, your bank guarantees Dell that they will get paid if they received an authorization through their merchant system. Once Dell posts the charge to your old account, your old bank will post the debit against your closed account. Your old bank will then send you notice of a pending balance and give you an opportunity to pay. If you refuse to pay, they will turn it over to a collect agency and ruin your credit. However, that is the least of your worries since your old bank will flag your SSN in the AMES system and you will never be able to open another bank account until the lein is paid. As a general rule, if you opened a new account you new bank will be notified and they will close your new account. Some Mortgage companies and consumer credit companies also pay for AMES subscriptions so those accounts can be closed as well. Bottom line, you will pay one way or the other.

I cant believe Dell can mess things up so badly. You order a drive early and you still have no sign of it. Mine says estimated ship date of November 29th now 🙁:|

does it worth $25 for all the trouble? i did call Dell CSR today and blah, blah, blah...at the end i still have to wait till Nov-29-2002 or sooner if i'm lucky enough. 2 month of waiting for this drive is too much for anyone to take.

at least i came out with $25 credit to my account for the order. now my drive come down to $253.06 - $25 = $228.06. i may get anouther $50 rebate if i get a hold of print out receipt from any retail stores (not online stores)

just ask them for to explain why they shipped to customers ordered after you and request an addition discount on top of the price for all thr trouble. good luck

For those who got them please post your sku #'s.

I just ordered another one on 11/20 and the sku is different. I'm betting on getting the one I ordered 11/20 (says Delayed till 12/9) before I get my one I placed on 10/3. Taking bets now. BTW on 11/20 order I made sure not to use any coupons and got the $20 next day shipping.

10/3 Sku: 952046-6 Quantity: 1
Description: Internal ATAPI EIDE DVD+-RW

11/20 Sku: 922642-4 Quantity: 1
Description: 2.4X/2.4X DVD+R/RW / 4X/2X DVD-R/RW / 8X

Tried going to BestBuy B&M to pick one up (my store had 2 in stock), but they didn't offer the $50 rebate in store so I didnt get it ... Was too afraid to not get the rebate even though its a Manf. Rebate because I didn't have the correct rebate form.

Would have been : 350 - 10% off BB B&M coupon = $315 - $50 MIR = $265 after MIR

Can anyone find a generic Sony rebate for this item?

zones.com/epp is special link for corporate account. i ordered dru500a on Nov-19 and airborne showed delivery date as Nov-25. total cost = $299 + shipping = $308

you can find $50 rebate at techbargains.com

For everyone who got their drives, how do you like it? Maybe some of you could post some reviews in the Hardware section. Thanks.

My initial impression is very favorable (I like it!). Still waiting for some DVD-R discs I ordered to come in, and have only played with the one DVD+RW disc that comes with the drive. Ripped and burned a back-up copy of a DVD I own, and played it in my Pioneer home DVD player. Worked like a charm, so I am happy.

Ok now, I must be blind............I cannot find a rebate for this drive, the 500A anywhere. Can someone help by supplying a link to the rebate..........it seems that I have fallen and I can't get up.

I have a jpeg of the BB DRU-500A (SKU 4789811) $50 rebate that has since disappeared from BB Rebate Center but it's kind of FUBAR:

OFFER DATE 11/15/2002 TO 10/22/2002

POSTMARK DATE 11/21/02

I'm going to give it a try if I can find one in stock.

349.99-10% coupon-50 MIR = ~265

Should we just give up and warn others not to order from Dell too. I see tons of threads of Dell deals but I don't think others are aware that what they order they may never see. Or is it best for them to just learn that on there own?

i still believe my conspiracy theory about Dell practice. they want ton of customers order the drive they not intent to ship to make 4th quarter project sales look pretty good. CSR told me the next project shipping date for dru500a is Jan-24-2003
