For those of you who say you have received it (not the ones who says "it's been shipped"). I'm assuming that you called Dell and asked for overnight shipping correct? Maybe I should make a 5th call.

Nope. Never called, never sent an e-mail.

First one was sent regular ups, which took 4 days from Texas.

Second one due to arrive tomorrow, will also have taken 4 days from Texas.

Maybe sometimes just shutting up & being a regular customer who exhibits some understanding of a tough situation pays off!;):)

And maybe that's why I got my 120GB se drive two weeks ago.

is this true that all dru500a you guys did receive were send directly from sony warehouse?

i talked to Dell CSR. she said that Dell have no control over their orders. they send all orders to sony and sony selected customers they feel should get the drives

Great.. I finally get this damn burner then I check my Discover bill and I learn that Dell charged me $369 for the damn thing. Now I have to fax them my original order confirmation and dispute this. Total crap.. just when you think the deal is finally over... they screw you.

Check your bills people... they seemed to have charged me the price that the drive was when it shipped.. not when I orderd (which was 10/1)

I got mine yesterday as well. Also, it appears that I was charged the proper amount. So, no complaints here.

My dad just got one of these drives about a week ago. His birthday is coming up and he asked if I could get him some writable media for the drive. Now I've read that this drive is having problems writing to certain formats. Has anyone been able to write at 4x? Has it worked in your dvd player? What types of media have you been successful with?

This is worse than rationing bread and toilet paper in Russia during the eighties when Nixon was prez.

I got two DVD-R Optodisc blanks, two DVD+R DVD ON blanks, one Mitsui DVD-R blank, and a Pioneer DVD-RW (the drive came with a Sony DVD+RW). Ill try all of them out and see which ones are the most compatible before I order a spindle.

They cancelled my order even though I called to confirm, so I couldn't tell you one way or another.

Umm. Nixon wasn't President in the 80s. He was President from 1968 until he resigned. Reagan was President from 1980 to 1988. Then Bush Sr. from 1988 to 1992.

And I don't see a "Class Action Lawsuit" out of this. Actually, I should have my drive from Dell shortly. It shipped yesterday.

Edit: My drive is arriving this morning!

Got a UPS tracking number today, ordered 10/08. Paid $243.56 and delivery date is 11/11. Time to look for cheap/compatible DVD media. :D

My, what a pleasant outlook on life you have WebDude. If you don't want to pay for your drive, I'll take it off your hands. :)

Just installed the drive...looks pretty fancy and it sure is a lot faster than my "old" pioneer DVR-104!
