Just got the trendnet for the same price a few days ago. Is there any real difference?

Few places if any review low-end switches, so it's hard to say. I don't like to judge a product by the Newegg comments. Both are probably fine products, the reason I posted this is that the price reduction seemed pretty steep and free shipping is nice.

I looked for a bit, but other than the general claim of being green, detecting ports not used, I couldn't find actual numbers for power consumption. Thats important for a 24/7 device.

I got the trendnet one as well, so far i'm unimpressed. It seems as though if you plug a 10/100 device into it, all subsequent ports are forced to 10/100. For example, I had a 10/100 switch daisy chained on to the end at port 7 and ports 6 and 8 were forced into 10/100 mode. I confirmed this by checking the link speed within windows which showed 10/100 instead of gigabit.

I have a smoothwall box with a 10/100 network adapter attached to my trendnet gigabit switch, it still operates in 1000 mode with no issue.

Is it one of these green 8 ports? I have one of the older ones also and it's fine.
