This is $239 with no rebate and free shipping - the lowest it's been previously was [edit] $273, and it was backordered for a long time, so you better run and get this.

This is a full-on Sandforce 2281 drive (for better or for worse), with toggle mode Toshiba NAND. It's just about as fast as Sandforce can get, and it's certainly the cheapest drive anywhere near this speed class.

Edit: Can also be backordered at Amazon for the same price: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...8?tag=at055-20

I have two of these purchased at 273 each. I am very tempted to buy this.

Smoking hot deal for a top-of-the-line SSD. Reviews look very good, too.

If only I didn't buy my Vertex 3 five months ago...

$1/GB has become pretty standard recently, especially for Sandforce-controlled SSDs. That said, I've always had very good experience with Mushkin components (mostly RAM), and this drive has performed pretty well in comparative testing. I'm still holding out for a sub-$200 256GB Samsung 830...a few more months should do it.

In six months to the end of the year, depending on how adoption continues to develop.

The capacities that are getting the best in GB/dollar are 120/128GB and 240GB/256GB. Right now, if you need a good amount of space, 240/256GB seem to be the sweet spot. There's this drive, and for 256GB there's the OCZ Petrol (Indilinx Everest), but reliability for that is relatively unknown.

I highly doubt it will take another 6 months. All it takes is one decent rebate or one NE code and we're there.

And as for best bang for your buck, we've seen $1/GB up through 512 for at least the past several weeks. And while I agree that this is a good deal on a pretty good drive, personally, "reliability" and "Sandforce" in the same sentence makes my skin crawl. Crucial, Intel, Samsung are pretty much the only ones I'd consider for my personal machines in 2012.

Well, rebates aren't the price everyone will pay because 1) not all people bother with them, 2) some people don't get them back, and 3) it's not the upfront price.

For 512GB I haven't seen 1GB/dollar. There's the 512GB Crucial m4, but that's just a bit over at $550.

And the reliability and SandForce argument is old now. The latest SandForce controller has been featured on SSDs for over a year now and all the issues were worked out about six months after the SSDs using it were out. Initially, it was a mess, but subsequent firmwares fixed everything.

Of course, if you're looking to be an early adopter of a new SSD series, don't go with one with a SandForce controller or made by OCZ.

Amazon has it for 238 it is a no tax item for me. I also get a 5% discount on it. this cost me about 226 . I also purchased the crucia. 512 from amazon for 530 minus 5% or 503. so i paid about 94 cents a gb for the mushkin and about 98 cents a gb for the crucial

This is definitely a hot deal. SSDs have been dropping price this year (finally). I'm guessing it's because the new versions/controllers are just around the corner (a la Vertex 4). Just dropped $500 on a 680 but d@mn is this tempting.

Thanks. Added link to OP.

your welcome .

I like this drive has been flawless as an internal in a mac mini.

Has been flawless with a mac mini and a seagate t-bolt adapter as an external. I have 2 and order the third one to put in my gigabyte h77 build.

The combination of toggle nand + $1/GB was too much to resist. Had this been anything less, I wouldn't have bitten. Damn you Mushkin!!

I'm not too worried about the Sandforce controller, I've done my homework. Intel SATA3 port with Intel RST driver (non-raid), AHCI in BIOS, SSD power settings, etc. Read through the Mushkin forums.

Have 2 of these in raid and they have been perfect from the start. Performance is even better than their specs for me. Never even a hiccup either.

Congrats! That's a fine system you have!

As to the question you raised earlier on newer drives coming out, I think we can see from the Vertex 4 that it's going to be pretty hard for newer drives to actually perform faster. The previous generation was already bottlenecked by SATA 6Gps in some situations, and where that didn't come into play, various tweaks have already been applied in drives like this Mushkin.

Is there a way to stick these in a XBox 360 and not getting banned for "modding"? It's the only thing in my house still using an ancient dino drive lol.

Wii, PS3, Xbox?

Since when does the Wii have a hard drive?

Pretty sure you can't add this to an xbox - I certainly wouldn't try it with mine.

As for a PS3, I've read about people adding SSDs, since Sony makes it fairly easy to upgrade the standard drive (I did), but I'd be concerned about the long-term effects on the drive of running it in a PS3. Seems like it at least does have some positive impact on performance: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-can-ssd-upgrades-boost-ps3-performance

Thanks for that link...good read. Of course, now you've got me wanting to spend another $250 on a new ssd for my ps3 :D
