Dead motherboard? CPU?

So I get up this morning to wake my system up from standby and I was greeted by a blank monitor. No signal. Fans and lights were still on but nothing on the screen.

Rebooting the system gives no beeps or POST.
I've switched the videocard with an 8800GT.
Taken memory out, tried different slots.
Cleared CMOS via jumper and battery.

No change.

Phase LEDs on the mobo sometimes turn on during a power on. Lights 1 through 4 are yellow. 5 and 6 are red.


This system was built when the i5 760 was released and it never moves from its spot so its not like something
just fell out of place. I do not overclock whatsoever. I haven't made any changes to the system in a long time either. No real problems until now.

What's the best way to diagnose short of buying a whole new motherboard and/or cpu?

could be a short or a poorly seated card.....

Try pulling the motherboard. . and pull everything from it, just leaving the cpu/hsf, graphics card, psu and ..single stick of ram.....

Pull the power cord, and cmos battery for a minute or so.. and then reconnect those two and see if it posts.... If it does, then start connecting the various components back to the board, including the hdd's, dvd, usb ports, etc.. and if all is well.. put the board back in the case...

If this doesn't work, then its most like the psu, motherboard, or RAM... Though its possible the cpu is bad, but less likely.. Also doublecheck the HSF mount on the psu to ensure its still solid...

Well, I've been giving some suggestions a try. I even went out and bought a new mobo and went through the trouble of installing it only to have the same result. So it looks like I'm going to have to spend even more money to get this solved,

So the motherboard is fine... that leaves the i5 760 or my Corsair HX520 PSU. The fans and LEDs turn on so I was doubting it's the PSU. The PSUs own fan turns on as well.

Bah. I don't know. It's late. I'm going to bed.
 
most likely the psu then , if you did followed all of the recommended step, and replace the mobo...

Do you have another pc you can temporariliy swap the psu from ?

The spinning of fans is misleading... as they require minimal voltage ...So often times a bad or weak psu can still provide enought power to spin a fan or two.. but not get the machine to post.
 
I'm having the same issue. I just replaced Ram and graphics card. Everything powers on except I have no screen. Pulled CMOS battery, took out a stick of ram, removed all usb/cdrom/hdd/ tv tuner, etc. I am not really wanting to spend any more money right now but if you confirm it's a PSU issue, that would be better news than say, mobo/cpu.
 
I solved my issue by removing the mobo and pulling out an extra riser from the case. If you tested the mobo outside the case and still had an issue, I'd imagine your problem is with the seating of your ram, cpu, or graphics card if they are all fairly new.
