Office Depot has Compaq Presario Notebook Computer with AMD Sempron? Mobile Technology 3400 for $299.99 after $250 in 2 MIRs. Has to be ordered at store kiosk and shipping applies - I think it's $40-$50. Flyer is available for viewing at OD site.

14.1" WXGA WIDESCREEN
? 256MB DDR2 Memory
? 40GB Hard Drive
? Reads and writes CDs and plays DVDs via the combo drive
? 802.11b/g wireless LAN
Configuration Code 04107419

Not thread crapping, but I wish computer makers would quit the nasty little trick of shipping with anything less than 1GB of RAM, let alone 256MB in an attempt to appear to cost less. You almost always have to factor in the cost of more RAM.

I got my rebates from OD just fine. They took a while, sure, but they came in as expected. I don't know what your problem is.

just expressing my experiences and the general concensus of the AT HD community. there isnt a lot of good to say about OD either on rebate tracking/report sites as well.

I can't tell you how glad I am they don't. They'd charge me $250 more for that gig of ram. I bought mine for this same laptop deal for $100 through newegg.

od rebates ARE pretty annoying. i ordered something from them in august and only just last week did the rebate come in.

No consensus from me. I've gotten all my OD rebates without problems also.

I had to call their corp. office and complain before I got a $150 laptop rebate. It had been denied twice before this.Denied twice with upc codes/receipts.They are good with small amount rebates, anything over $50 and I wont buy from OD . They lost me forever .

this is a very basic laptop, people who use these probably won't t do much outside of Office, the internet and maybe some Solitaire. 256 isn't exactly nice, but it keeps the costs down. And for the average person it will run decent enough. I'd bet $100 95% of people who buy this won't put extra ram in it.

At least they sent yours!

Tuesday -- the day before leaving on my trip -- they sent a card indicating I "had failed to enclose the sales slip" with my Samsung 22" monitor rebate. They gave me 8 days to have the s.s. in their hands. Fortunately, I had the scanner image of what I'd originally sent -- clearly including the s.s. Had their card arrived a day later, I couldn't have sent the images and a nasty note within their 8 day window.

It's not -exactly- OD's fault: they contract the work out. But I'm another person who's gun-shy about their rebates now.

I think it is their fault. It's their responsibility to find someone reliable to parcel out the rebate. In reality it's the other way around. They look for contractors who minimize rebate redemption.

I was involved in an investigation into Best Buy rebate failures. The funniest piece of evidence was a deposition from the contractor explaining that legally they have no responsibility to the customer to pay valid rebate claims. They were absolutely right. Companies can't avoid their responsibilities by hiring contractors to do a lousy job.

I honestly don't understand what world all these people are living in who claim they can just mail in a rebate and they get it with no problem. Sure it happens on occasion, but every time? Not in this universe.

I've not had problem with OD's rebates before. If I rate the rebate programs:

Staples is the fastest and the best; TigerDirect is the worst. I don't buy anything from them no matter how cheap the products are. Their rebates are full of traps to make you not getting them. At least some companies inform you that your rebate had problems. Mach speed (TigerDirect) didn't even tell you anything. Refrain from buying anything from TigerDirect especially products from Mach Speed.

Is this dead? The OP says 1/18 - 1/20.

There's no link.

Any specs additionally? Included OS = ? Anyone who has (or has seen this) make any comments? Branding, build quality, etc.?

Yes, it's way dead and was resurrected for who knows what reason. I'll edit the title to reflect the status.
