Dead MoBo??

bought this thing a week ago and just got time to try it out tonight... slapped an FX55 on it and tried to turn it on... it doesnt respond. The mobo light comes on when i turn the power switch on the PSU to on, but nothing happens when i hit the power switch.

im sure that the power switch is plugged in correctly (hard to get that wrong since its color coded) and ive tried the board in 2 different cases. the only other thing i can think of is the board is DOA... the only thing i have on the board is 1gb of corsair ram, a vid card, and the cpu+fan. both power connecters are plugged into the board as well.

should i box this thing up and send it back?

thanks for any replies

try resetting the bios...if that doesn't work, try running the motherboard outside the case (somewhere static safe) with just your cpu, psu and ram. See if you get a post. Have you used this PSU before? do you know for sure it works?

thanks for the replies, i tried 2 different cases with 2 different PSU's but neither worked. I havent reset the bios yet. Ill try that tonight.

Im pretty certain the wires are connected correctly, but it was pretty late last night, perhaps i was cross eyed for a moment. Ill be extra careful tonight.

the ram, mobo, and cpu are all brand new.

Got your square 4-pin ATX12V cable plugged into the board? It's up high where it gets overlooked sometimes. Also look in the owner's manual for the definitive location of the mobo's power-switch pins, because Asus's silkscreened markings are sometimes inverted from the actual pin layout.

Remove all Floppy and hard drive cables from the mobo.
Remove all USB devices also and any other device that is not a keyboard or mouse.
Disconnect power to the drives and floppies.
Only Mobo and Video Card is connected to power.

Try powering up.

Remove Ram

Try Powering up and see if you get beeps?

If no you need a mobo hopefully nothing else.

Good Luck.

yeah i tried removing everything, resetting the bios, but nothing turns on. the psu doesnt even click on...neither psu's do. i even pulled off the video card, but still nothing. dammit, i dont want to go through the hassel of getting another mobo.

yep, its plugged in.

That board may have a voice post reporter, many of the Asus boards do. Plug in some speakers to the green jack and see if it says anything when you attempt to power on.

thanks again for the help everyone...

mechBgon, yep, thats what I am plugging it into.

i called asus support and they told me it's probaly dead and that i should RMA it. so i guess it's going back!
