CompUSA.com offers the Microsoft USB Fingerprint Reader, model no. DG2-00002, for $34.99. Mail-in rebates of $15 and $10 chop the net price to $9.99. Free shipping or you can buy one at your local B&M store. Offer good thru March 25th.
Best price I have ever seen on this unit, or any fringerprint reader for that matter. Only downside is it only works with Internet Explorer.

These are Microsoft rebates though. Don't think it has anything to do with CompUSA. Both rebates are to Microsoft, one to Detroit and the other to El Paso.

Had my eye on this toy for a while now but couldn't get over the $40-50 play price.

@ $10 I'm in for one for sure.

Looks like a good deal, but I prefer the APC Biometric Pod I got off Ebay. It comes with OmniPass and that allows you to use it in a lot of different software and interfaces well with Windows. I got mine for around $15 shipped off Ebay - NIB.

But if you, like most users out there, use IE, then I don't see any problem with this great deal.

And unless MS has changed their tune recently, you can't use it to log in to a domain (not that that'll matter for personal use).

Good deal but I will have to pass

It works in all my programs that require passwords. Only thing is in quickbooks, it'll enter the password but it won't hit the ok button for some reason. all the other programs, it does. i think it's great, best consumer fingerprint reader out since theres like two. i've tried the APC one, it sucks. the software of the apc is what makes it suck the most. obviously the microsoft one is better integrated into their os.

I don't suppose this can be used to generate images of fingerprints? For example, to eliminate the nasty black ink often used.

Acquire the microsoft FingerPrint Reader
Enclose as your proofs of purchase for Wireless Optical Desktop 5000

Part of the rebate (10$) requires purchase of the optical desktop i think.

Humm, I am not seing what you are.... perhaps they updated it.

On 0021888.pdf (the $10 rebate form) I see:

1. Acquire the microsoft FingerPrint Reader
2. Enclose as your proof of purchase for FingerPrint Reader:
barcode, etc... yada yada yada...

Don't see anything about the optical desktop.

What I don't like about that rebate is up top where it say not combinable with any other Microsoft offers or rebates.
Both rebates for this item are Microsoft.
Therefore I'm just gonna use the ones that printed from the register.

This thing probably wouldn't do it, but we use an inkless palmprint /fingerprint scanner at work (fed govt)

hold your hand against the glass, scan, and off to the fbi database it goes.

we also use inkless thumbprint scanners for DoD smart cards which stores your thumb print on the smart card.
