Here's my story:

10:10 am: Called Best Buy to see if it was in stock, and there are 20 left.

10:20 am: Ordered it from Staples.com w/ $20 off $100 coupon, about $90 charged. It's now 2 business days wait BTW.

10:33 am: Called 1-800-333-3330 and got Sheila. She put me on hold and said she was able to do the pricematch, but couldn't do it until it shipped out or till it was in stock or something. I asked her to call me up when my PMed order total finalized though. I asked her about the coupon I used, but she couldn't me might happen to it, so we'll see what happens. Even if they only PM it to BB's price, there's no rebates for a good hard drive. It's my first PM experience, and I'll say it's turning out pretty good so far. I'll tell you guys what happens to my order.

Wohoo! Got in!

Called Staples last night... no go. My Best Buy was closed so she couldn't price match.

Called again today and the first Best Buy he called was out of stock of the hard drives, so I gave him another local Best Buy number and they had one hard drive left in stock. :D

Total after everything: $48.29 (couldn't use the $20 off)

Not bad for an extra hard drive to setup my raid 1.

I did this twice... check best buy's stock to make sure they have it
ordered 2 80 gig hard drives (2 different accounts) - used same 20 off 100 coupon for both drives
account one total: $109.98 - $20 coupon = $89.98
account two total: $109.98 - $20 coupon = $89.98

waited 20 minutes, called 1800-3staple option 2..
me: I wanna do a PM to my local best buy, heres my order # and the best buy phone #
chick: OK hold on
me: OK csr b!atch
2 min later
chick: OK ill do your PM.. gonna do a credit of 53.50 to your VISA
me: Thats right. ok bye.

account 1 price: 42.78 (thats w/ tax included)

10 min later, called again
me: Yea i wanna do a PM.. blah blah
csr: ok hold up
5 min later
csr: Yea best buy.com has it for 2 bux cheaper, u still wanna do it?
me: no dumb@ss I wanna PM my local best buy
csr: oh
me: yea heres the number like i told you before
csr: ok hold up
2 min later
csr: ok we'll do the PM and credit you 58.85
me: ok good bye

account two price: 37.43 (thats with tax included)

so all together I payed 80.21 for 2 80gb hard drives.. id have to say this is a hot deal.

these maxtors from what i hear are very quiet... fluid dynamic bearings or something of that nature? yea they are really good - i think they sell for a higher price than the WD one's on ebay - not sure if that means anything or not

Just got in on the deal. I ordered a drive last night, and called staples this morning. First, I tried the PM with Best Buy B&M, but they were out of stock in my area code. So I asked the CSR to PM to outpost.com instead. She said she will have to get the PM approved with her supervisor. I waited a minute and then she told me that I would be getting a credit of $53.64!

Total:
$109.98
-$20.00 (coupon)
+$5.40 (shipping)
-$53.64 (PM)
---------
$41.74

Sweet!

For those who are being unsuccessful, remember what happened when you were little,
and fell of the bike [after the training wheels were removed]...

Call 'em back and try again... You will get a different csr.

From the posts and my own experience, it seems there are more who will do it than those who will not,
so the cards are in YOUR favor.

Btw, i still attest, some staples csr's failed math..... 110-60=50, not 60!!!!, but who am I to complain.

Has anyone tried to price match at Staples B&M? I'd take the drive for $55 in store if they did.

i have the maxtor 120gb 8MB one from the deal last week, and I must say it's incredibly quiet. I have to check the hDD light just to make sure the thing is working sometimes. It was a huge difference from my older 60gb 2mb cache where when it thinks/reads, it makes a real loud churning noise.

Hot damn. Here's what happened. AFter about 30 minutes on the phone with the CSR checking prices and stuff, she came back and said, we'll go ahead with the PM and credit you $59.99 back to your Visa card.

$59.99?? That doesn't make any sense. I think she messed up. She should've given me back $55 (110% x $50). I think she mixed her numbers up and used the ending price of the maxtor which is $59.99 and gave that back to me.

So technically

$109.99
- 59.99
- $20 (coupon)
= $29.99 + 8.25% tax
= $32.46

I think I definately lucked out. Let's see if this mistake is correctly credited to my VISA. =) (Crossing fingerS)

Worked on my 2nd try and only took about 2 minutes. The guy said at first that I couldn't use a 20$ off 100 so I told him I would use a 10 off 50 and then he said actually 20$ off 100 works.

I live in a city with 10 best buys but no Staples. There are staples in my state but its over 150 miles away. Will they still do a pricematch?

thanks

Well, it looks like I snagged one of those drives.

The BB line was ringing and ringing with 2 different reps. On the 3 time, the CSR was kind enough to call them and call me back when she got through. I thought that was awesome.

Bill came out to:
97.63 incl tax
59.74 less (don't know where she came up with that)
-------
37.89 Total :Q

Thanks MysticMan1
