Good deal once again MysticMan.

But I really question myself when I am going to put 200GB of my precious data in one single hard drive. Man I dont know what I am going to do when I lose all of it.

On the other hand I could use it to back up my hundreds of GBs of stuff.

I think at 51cts per GB its prolly pretty good.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but this deal will not work. That rebate is for staples.com only, which makes the PM impossible. I dont think you'll be able to use it for a phone or B&M purchase.

oookay, would you mind sharing how I am wrong? I am very interested in this deal. I'm just not sure how i'm going to get it to work. Since the rebate is for staples.com only, how will i redeem the rebate if i do a phone order or purchase from B&M?

Does anyone know if these ATA/133 PCI cards that come with these larger hard drives (Western Digital also if anyone knows) have 2 channels? So I could add 4 additional drives to my system...

You're new around here so maybe you don't know how thing work, there's a differences between asking a "question" about a deal and making a "statement" that a deal can't be done. I answer questions, I don't answer statements.

Go back to my first post and read it again slowwwwly.
Forget about the rebate you're PM'ing Staples before rebate price of $299.99 to Fry's store price of $259.99, ($299.99 - $259.99 = $40 + 10% = $4, $40 + $4 = $44 PM total + taxes.

As far as phone orders, you can do this deal 2 ways, you can go to Staples.com and put in a order for the HD using a coupon, "then" call Staples (1-800-333-3330) and ask for the PM or you can call and do the PM and place you order using a coupon at the same time.

This is a on-line deal, but you can do it in store by taking the Fry's store ad to your local Staples store and using a in-store printable $30 off $150 email coupon if you have one.

You seem to be confused about the rebate, it a Staples purchase so you use the Staples rebate :p

Well you know that these hard drives will only get bigger and bigger and harder to backup, but I'm sure when the 30GB hard drive first came out some people say the same thing about putting their precious data in one single 30Gb hard drive.

I'm new so where does everyone get their in-store coupons from? Anyone care to email it to me because I'd rather do this in-store.

This Sunday's Ad for FRY's doesn't have the 200gig sale price or $259.99 on it... do I have to go to a Fry's store and get an advertisement there?

Compusa has it for 269.99 so I guess I don't have to be picky and PM that. I just wish I had that in-store $50 off coupon... someone please get back as the stores will close soon...

Thanks Mystic

These hard drive deals finally made me want to sign up for these forums... thanks everyone.

clueless...really....

i guess SOME PEOPLE dont read staples policy...

if you are going to use a coupon, which is what you suggested, staples policy says they deduct it from the BASE price FIRST. SO the Drive at staples will not be $300, itll be $270, which will be a difference of $10, or 110% of $11, or $259...then minus $120 rebate is $139.

The coupon is deducted from the staPLEs price first, NOT after the PM.

So the hard drive will be $139. Not $106....

let me guide you...
Staples PM Policy
Bullet 5 reads:
Available coupons and rebates will be deducted from the Staples price to come up with a net Staples price when calculating the price match. For example, if you buy an item from us for $100, and we offer a $20 rebate, the net price is $80. If the item is available from another company for $80 or more, there will be no price match. Another example would be if you buy an item from us for $159 and you have a $30 coupon the net price is $129. If the item is available from another company for $125, the price match will be for $4.40 (110% of the difference).

Tokar, you're not clueless and you are correctly understanding Staples PM policy. Sometimes a customer service representative won't follow the policy correctly and will let a PM like this slip through. People who do deals like this generally have to call back a number of times until they get a CSR that lets them do it, so it's not exactly a conventional (or even assured) type of deal.

It doesn't matter what the Staples policy says, it's what Staples {b]does[/b] that matters. I have done 10 Staples PM's to a after rebate price in the past 4 weeks and have used a coupon on all of them without a problem and I know lots of other menber who have done the same, but you keep rigth on reading the policy and me and the other menber will keep on saving money. ;)

Any one how "insist" that I can't do PM and use a coupon after I have already done it 10 times obviously doesn't have a clue to what is going on and therefore might be perceived as being clueless.
Next time instead of tell someone a deal can't be done, ask them to explain "how" it's done.

when one asks to PM to fry's outpost, what would staples say?

i see outpost.com as an online reseller...

but because fry's owns them, in some sense they aren't exactly an internet reseller...so how does one convince staples to PM to fry's?

(this question is unrelated to having staples use both the PM and the coupon)...

the second part of that question is: being that im in PA, why would staples consider outpost.com a competitor, seeing as how the closest fry's B&M store is in Texas which, in most cases, is a 2-3 hr flight away?

and the third part of that question is: would microcenter pricematch outpost.com?

Although it may depend on the CSR, I have had pretty good luck doing a PM and then applying coupon for HDD's at Staples recently (phone order). There must be a glut of drives.

Now trying to get a PM to the TigerDirect Athlon XP 2500+ Barton is another story. Lot's of excuses given by CSR and letter from corporate denying PM to TigerDirect.

But I digress - the point being - if there's a glut, Staples can be very flexible (even instore). If it's a high demand item, don't expect much flexibility.

As always be pleasant and just try again if you get shot down. I may get that 2500+ Barton with PM and coupon yet! (Staples will PM NewEgg for processors).

good luck

When asking to PM say you want to PM a Fry's "store".

As far as being in PA the CSR could be use that as a reason to say no to the PM, but once they start doing the same PM many time they will put the info in to the computer so that other CSR don't have to keep calling the store every time someone ask for this PM, if your CSR see that the PM to Fry's store has already been approve the CSR will approve your PM without checking to see if you live are near a Fry's store. This works better when you buy first and then call and choose option #2 (for orders already placed), these CSRs do a lot of PM's and usually know about the more popular PM's.
If you order on-line first wait about 10 minutes, ( it takes the computer that long to process you order), then call, that way if your PM is rejected and you don't want to try another CSR you still have time to cancel your order.

If the PM to Fry's store doesn't work try to PM to a local Compusa store, but that PM is $10 more.

I don't think microcenter does PM's.

I just remenber that since a $30 off $150 coupon is being used you can add a freebie to you order like this :
Free 3 piece American Tourister bag set on $100+ orders, item # (503513-EV) LINK Exp. 9-15-03 Limit one per customer
You need a code (which I can't post here) to get this for free.

:DThanks Mystic... you are correct as usual about pricematch and coupons... I just got back from my local Staples. I used the instore kiosk to place an order for the 200gb drive @299.98 then applied my 30 off 150 coupon(Yes, it was actually mine, not one ripped from a forum!:Q Then applied a "big" $4.00 rewards check for a total of 265.98. Then printed my order took to csr and showed her printouts of the Compusa deal for 30.00 cheaper. At first they werent going to do it cuz she said starting this week they will no longer accept internet pricematches.(Per corp.) But I explained it was not an internet deal just cuz I printed the webpage, Compusa sells these in store at that price, not just on internet. Manager approved 110% price match..and they did not remove coupons... I had a gift check too, but it was expired already and they wouldnt take it so the price match helped even things up again:p One thing about this deal though.. it is still a mail order as none of the Staples in Jacksonville stock the 200 gig hard drive only the 160s, but I think you always have a better chance of deals like this dealing with instore csrs since these things take time and tie up checkout lanes, they are more apt to just do the matches and coupons for you compared to online/phone reps who make a point of trying to shoot down our deals. Thanks MysticMan 200gb hard drive for $112.99 + tax... nice:beer:

Updade : Fry's has continued their sale of the Maxtor 200GB 8MB Hard drive for $139.99 after a $120 MIR, but the $120 rebate that Staples is offering will expire on Saturday, so starting Sunday you can have Staples PM Fry's after rebate price of $139.99, plus you don't have to deal with a $120 rebate or the taxes on that rebate and use a coupon to save more. I will update this deal on Sunday.

There are no Fry's in the cleveland area - will staples still do a PM if i order the drive off staples.com and then call in for the PM (referring them to outpost.com)? If so, it would be a 200gb hard drive for ~$115 without rebates..? cool
