everyone needs to make sure to go and bid for this info

I hate those information auctions. I've seen a few of them go badly as well. This seller is fairly new and has a spotless feedback record. How much do you want to bet that this seller has a less than perfect record after he/she gets done with his/her information auctions? ;)

How is this for a deal. Kinda same thing as Chuck, but better.

I went into Staples B&M and they had the 120gb 8mb in the place where the 100+20gb 2mb usually go. I asked the girl what the price was and she said $139.xx and I said I would take it. This is the actual $199.99 one. I got the CD-Rs to make it over $150 so I could use the $30 off coupon. When it rang up at the register for $199.99 she went to check and asked the guy who just told her to put the SKU in which gave it to me for the $139.xx price. The rebates printed out as well, so I will try and get the rebates, which will be another $30-$40. I also had a $30 gift card from a previous purchase.

Breakdown

$199.99 actual drive
$139.xx price paid
$12.84 for CD-Rs
-$30 In-store coupon
-$30 Gift Card
+tax

=$100.xx TOTAL, not including $10 MIR and possible $30-$40 MIR for HD. Which means if it works out I got the $200 version for around $50. :)

Now if I can just PM the drive I bought at BB last week to the CompUSA deal, I will have 2 of these drives in my system for $110 total.

Man, you're an idiot. Let's analyze your "Enron-style" accounting:

You can't use the $40 rebate on the HD because it's for a different SKU, so you don't have a valid UPC to send in for the rebate. That's $40 we can add back to that $50 total you're bragging about. Plus the $30 from your gift card, which represents an expenditure. And you can't count the $10 MIR as a credit against the drive, because that's offset by the cost of the $12 CD spindle. So redo the math...that drive cost you $130. That's $130 for the same drive you can find at CompUSA for $79!

That's no bargain, dude.

Sony 80-Minute CD-R Spindle, 50/Pack (#384268) $12.94 - $10 MIR = $2.94
I have not been able to find this rebate anywhere.
Can anyone help?
Thanks

Mine should be arriving tomorrow morning. I bought it online. Am I able to pricematch this then? Do I just bring in my packing/sales receipt to the Staples B&M? I also bought it a week ago.

you have 2 weeks to pricematch
just call them up 1800-3staple
or go in and do it
they will credit the money back to your card

the rebate isnt on the sony cdrs.. its on the maxell cdrs

Actually, you're wrong. Staples weekly specials CLEARLY shows a total of $19 combined savings: "$21.99-$19 Combined Savings=$2.94!". Talked to CSR yesterday who informed me rebate would be up shortly...not too worried here.

Toddler, No you're wrong.

I got the GC as a "gift". No expense to me. I did nothing for it. I paid $100.xx yesterday at the store. I may not get the rebate, but chances are slim that any one else will either. Just because you send it off doesnt mean you will get it.

Anyway, has anyone else noticed how many of these drives are on ebay?

I've gotten every rebate I ever sent in. Sometimes it takes complaining to the authorities, but probably 90% of the time they come perfectly fine without any complaining or anything else. People who think "rebates never come" are playing right into the hands of sleazy companies who hope people forget about rebates and give up. If you don't receive a rebate and you don't complain about it or do anything, you are actually hurting everyone else by encouraging these companies in this behavior. Keep track of your rebates, legit ones of course, and make sure you get them.

I agree i ve recieved every staples rebate ever. I mean hell once they even sent me 2 $60 rebate checks instead of the onehey owed me. Stples has A++++ service on rebates. If you dont recieve one just call them up and tell them they are very very nice!

Just want to give to give Staples a bump for excellant service despite our a**'s ripping them off.
Hats off to ya.

Sorry Winchester, your logic is still off. You're the only one who won't get the $40 rebate, because you're the only one who bought the wrong drive. All the rest of us have a UPC for the rebate. And just because the $30 gift card wasn't an expense doesn't affect it's value. It may as well have been cash, and you chose to use that $30 on a hard drive. So the bottom line is that your purchase cost you $130 when you could have gotten it for $79 at CompUSA.

And my primary premise was that you're an idiot, which I'm still contending. Or maybe you just haven't gotten to the part in school where they teach you things like basic math or the difference between "your" and "you're."

I said then let me apply a $20 off $100 coupon, but they said they can't since it is past 48 hours after the order was placed. That's so inconsistent. I actually demanded a supervisor and she wouldn't budge.
Well I called this morning and got someone else who put me on hold for two minutes and then said "no problem" to doing the pricematch. So I got this drive for $47...amazing!

Thanks Anandtech!

A Gift Check is not redeemable for CASH. It was giving to me by someone who did not need it. Therefore I had to use it, which means $30 off for FREE, like the $30 off $150, same thing, I just got to use two. If I have to count my GC then you have to count your coupon. Which means you paid $87 for the drive.

I called my credit card company today to see what has been credited and debited, and it's not right. I was suppose to be debited 130.09, but they only took 129.82, and they have not credited me anything, i'm gonna sit and wait for a while and call back in a couple of days, but right im thinking of calling and getting a pm again because they lowered the drive down to 139.98. plus i might just buy another one.

The Staples $40 mir runs from 3/2 to 3/29, limit 1. If you already purchased 1 then you probably can't buy another 1 w/in this time frame.

ok.. let me restate.. the rebate I quoted is for the maxell, not the sony
the maxell cdrs were 12.94 - 10 rebate, and the rebate was already up.. so I included a link

I didnt call and ask them about rebates they would eventually be putting up

I'll tell you what. For the sake of argument, let's count your $30 gift card. You still paid $100 (and had to give up a $30 gift card) for a drive that everyone else can get for $79. That's no deal, dude.

You're so much better just returning everything to Staples, getting your $30 gift card back and buying the drive for $79 at CompUSA.

Yeah I know, it's gonna go to my cousin because she needs a bigger harddrive. but i'm not getting one until my pm is credited, and then try and pm again to their own price.
