How are these dvds? I had a bad run of maxell cd-r, but then again, any brand can have a bad batch. Anyone use these a lot?

Are the Taiwanese versions still the same media code? The only media codes I see listed on videohelp.com are for the -r: mxl r g03 and +r: maxell 002, RICOHJPNR02

From what I've read in other threads regarding this media the Made In Taiwan is Ritek and the Made In Japan is either MXL or TY. MXL and TY are both 1st Class quality so just make sure that it's Made In Japan.

I think those are 4x +rs and Im not sure what they will burn at. The japanese made 8x +Rs will only burn at 12 but are very good too.

I got a great cashier at the store who not only pricematched, but gave me a 110% pricematch and let me buy 3-50 packs!!

Total before tax $12.44 ea.

Got MXLRG03 -R's which burn @ 16x speed in both my BenQ 1620 and NEC 3500 with 97 score in Nero's CD\DVD disc quality scans.

150 made in japan 8x dvds for under $40!! Priceless.

Already bought a spindle of +R's when I got my dvd burner, I do believe I'll have to bite on the -R pack

none of these will be TY. The only TY maxell Ive ever gotten was the 4x -Rs. The rest have been Richo or Maxell.

True. I have yet to read reports on any MiJ Maxell 8x that are TY. All the 8x MiJ are Maxell's own brand at their manufacturing plant. The older 4x had a mixture of TY's and Maxell's. I would stay away from Ricoh's. Actual Maxell's (id: MXL) are very good.

Maxell has been the most consistent media Ive used. Ive had a few batches of TY that really disapointed me. Some MIJ fujis I got from kmart on sale were terible. Also some from best buy werent up to there normal standards.

You're right. Just tested my batch and they're MXL. As for my stack of 4x Maxells, they're all TY.

Hmm, I can't remember if Staples has in-store pickup when ordering from their online website. Anyone know?

ps. While looking at these dvd's, I noticed Maxells "Music" cd-r's. Is there anything special about these compared to regular cd-r's? Does music really sound better on them?

I just spoke to a Staples rep, and they don't offer free in-store pickup.

The only thing special about these "music" CD-R's is that you pay more for them compared to regular CD-R's because you pay the RIAA a small tax on them as reimbursement for their losses due to copyright infringement. Or, according to Verbatim's website:

CD-R Audio or CD-R Music discs are for use with standalone recorders that hook up to your stereo, and the extra cost is a royalty to songwriters for the privilege of copying their CDs. These recorders check the blank CD's "Disc Application Code." If the blank is marked with the "for music" Application Code, recording is allowed. If not, recording is disabled. Computer-based recorders don't care about the "for music" code, so these more expensive blanks are unnecessary for use on a computer based recorder.

Also, there's no noticeable difference.

The -Rs are just as good as TY and the +Rs are really good media. Ive used hunreds of both and never had any problems at all. Like said before I have gotten a few batches of ty and I havent been the only one.
