Update #4: Circuit City is out of stock at practically all locations. The Z-680 is no longer listed on their web site; the 5.1 system listed instead is the Z-5300.

-----

Update #3: Anecdotal evidence suggests that the PriceMatch is dead . Staples Corporate has advised all CSRs to reject this PriceMatch on the grounds that this is a clearance item at CC, and Staples will not PM clearance items.

Only way to get the Z-680 for cheap is directly through Circuit City B&M. Officemax is another possibility, but a very big YMMV from what I've seen.

-----

Update #2: Go to Staples Live Chat to do a 110% PM. They should quote you $181.89, and there is a $20 MIR linked below to bring the final price to $161.89 before tax (there is free shipping). You could try the Staples 1-800 #, but I got shot down multiple times.

Step by Step:

(1) Go to Staples Live Chat (Click on LiveChat logo, available from 9 to 5 EST) (might be until 5:30 EST)

(2) Give them this item number: IM1570517 (from Ingram Micro catalog)

(3) Ask for PM to Circuit City (product page here, enter zip code at upper right) -- $181.89.

(4) After receiving product, try using the $20 rebate. (Amazon, JPG) (TigerDirect, PDF) -- $161.89.

Credit to misterxchen and others on this FW thread for PM info and this thread too.

-----

Update #1: You can no longer add to cart at Circuit City. You'll have to buy it at B&M (If they're nice, they'll hold it for you). Check stock by entering zip code.

Some hot speakers for a hot price. Logitech Z-680 at Circuit City for $199.99. Add to cart to see price.

Credit goes to HuMmEr1394 at FW.

I went to CC looking for some z560's for a rig i was building for someone. I bought the 5300's, They had bass but not the highs like the 560's 680's.

You will see a big difference. The 5300's just didnt do it for me.

Gahh! I'd get these if I had the cash and didn't have a set of Z-640s on the way to replace the ones I have with a slight crackle.

I just got these and the front speakers are the same as the rear? Is there any difference? Also the logitech website says these are 500 watt speakers and the box says 450 watts. Why the difference?

The "Digital SoundTouch Control Center", which is the little control panel has both a coax and an optical input. So it's as easy as running the cable from the DVD player's output to the input in the control center. Check out a picture of it here IGN Review :D

You want to make sure you get the 500 watt version from what I've heard. And from pictures it looks like the front L and R speakers are identical to the rear L and R. I haven't seen these in person yet (in the mail!) so I'm no expert.

Did you get yours from Staples or CC? If Staples, how did you get them so fast and why are they 450 watt? (Boo!) If CC, then exchange them pronto!

These were the last ones left. They make 2 different versions of the 680? 450 and 500 watt versions?

Wow! Great deal. And it looks like the $20 rebate will work too since it's valid anywhere *except* at: A&B Sound, Best Buy, Business Depot, Circuit City, CompUSA, Electronic Boutique, Fry's, Gamestop, KMart, Meijer, Micro Center, Mutlti Micro, Office Depot, Office Max, Sam's Club, Target, and Wal-Mart.

Says nothing about Staples. :D

This speakers rock mightily! I got mine over a year ago thru Dell for about $195 and even w/o the PM, they're killer for the money.

You know what--I don't know. Some places advertise it as 450 watt "RMS" (example). But then in the specs they state 505 watts total. And if you add up the numbers for all the speakers, you get 505. Perhaps you could refer to your handbook to see if the speaker + subwoofer wattage add up.

I read somewhere that the box ought to say "500 watts" on it. Here is someone's post about it.

I read somewhere else that Logitech upgraded this system to 500 watts but might not have relabelled boxes/manuals.

Excerpt: "Some of us was confused about the 500 watt, because in the manual it says that the set is 450!!! I called the Logitech and had a discussion about that. They told me that they made an upgrade for all Z-680 sets from 450 to 500 watt, but they didn't change the box or the manuals. You can make sure about that with the giving link."

The excerpt is from a post made back in 05/2003. So the above two posts lead me to believe that there are now a mixture of boxes that say "450" and "500", but are actually 500 watt.

argh.

CircuitCity pisses me off so much.

I went in today and tried to buy the last set of Z680 at the KC north store. When I tried to pay for it, they told me I couldn't use my CC because my name didn't match the one on my license. (The one on my license is my chinese name).

So the manager said they would hold it for me behind the service counter until I came back.

Well, I just called them to make sure they still had it, and now the managers are saying that they DONOT hold anything for their customers.

WTF?!?

Another deal shafted.

I'm going to pick up 2 sets tomorrow, one for my theater room and one for my computer. Closest CC that has these in stock is close to hour away from me but it's worth it. Hopefully they'll have at least two.
