For those wondering, I've found dd-wrt to be a higher performance firmware than tomato, but I find tomato to be more reliable (probably just because there's less options for me to mess with). Tomato also seems to offer a stronger wireless signal, at least on the routers I have, but that could just be a difference in default transmit power.

I hear Tomato has better QOS and overall stronger* WIFI signal* like Fox mentioned.

Otherwise DDWRT is fine in my book.

edit -I FAIL ENGRISH :(

I got 2 delivered today. Haven't opened up the package yet. Planning on replacing my old WRT54G with one of these and giving it to my parents. I'll either sell the other one or set it up at my gf's place.

I got one a few days ago. The unit had dust on it (as many seem to reading other forums) but the jacks were sealed (and so was the CD) and the cords were never unwound .

I'll happily post once I get it integrated, but I have no "before" numbers since I heatsinked it the day after I got it.

Router's been up happily for a tad over 4 days now - my DI-624 wouldn't stay up that long under any kind of P2P load and this one seems unaffected! I'm still not using the wireless portion - I've got another unit elsewhere as an AP, but the fan blows cool to cold air no matter what I'm doing. I'll probably bring the wireless online this weekend and see if I can reliably use 2 APs - which I've never gotten to work well before.

I loaded the 12548M build recommended in the dd-wrt.com wiki page posted here. I'm using DNSmasq for DHCP/DNS and JFFS2 for configuration settings, but nothing else fancy. I do see between 1000-1100 connections under a decent P2P load but this puppy seems unfazed by that. (Max is set to 4096)

Now I'm sad that I didn't get a 2nd unit to use as a "matched" AP - anyone with an extra they don't want, please PM me!

Agreed. I'd love a 2nd one. Anyone have one they aren't using?

I purchased 2 for the very reasons you guys mentioned ;)

Understood - I just recalled a few "I bought 3, dunno why" posts above, figured if anyone wanted to cash out it could be mutually beneficial :)

I'll keep watch for another similar deal in the future!

Thanks,
Richard
