I went to Fry's this morning and picked up the combo. The bundled ECS motherboard does not work with the CPU, as everyone else has said. I was hoping I could use the board for troubleshooting, but guess not. The CPU is retail and unopened, though I won't be surprised if someone gets an opened one. I chose the Asus P5N-E SLI (650i) motherboard to go with this CPU ($150). They also have the Asus P5K-E ($210), P5B Deluxe Wifi ($220), and P5K Deluxe ($280). All of them are cheaper online.</end quote></div>

did u just exchange the motherboard with them right on the spot?

I don't think that's possible. You have to buy the combo together. If you want to return the CPU, you gotta return the ECS motherboard also. So I paid $300+$150+tax.

I am surprised that they would sell an incompatible cpu/mobo combo and not give you at least an option to upgrade to a better mobo.

There is no upgrade on the board and you can't return the board without returning the whole bundle. This was confirmed in the FW thread

Scored one @ Fountain Valley. Each store in the LA/OC area had about 60-70 Q6600's at the beginning of the day. I purchased mine @ 12:00pm and there was 15 left.

Retail Box. Turning the motherboard on eBay. This is HOT considering we don't know how much retail stores will have the Q6600 priced at after July 22nd ($266 is the 1000 quantity price after that time)

Hot for me because I couldn't wait 15 more days 😀

Is the motherboard ok? I just want a Q6600 system with no frills, but don't have a fry's near me. I'd be willing pay an extra mobo no one wants if it's pretty cheap. Send me a pm.

Well the motherboard isn't compatible with the CPU.....so yeah. 😛

Bought 2 EVGA Geforce FX5200 for $54.XX (tax), and they should be free after rebate.

I'll post the in-store rebate that I got when I find a scanner. 🙂

Any idea on which board exactly it is? And has ECS gotten any more reliable? I've gotten in on a few combo deals like this in years past but the mobo's usually die.

Also, is the processor OEM, or retail?

its hit and miss as ever.

just be sure to get bugs worked out within the return period...14 days?

ecs rma is basically a nightmare of phone/email tag. i swear they just want to wear you down until you give up on it.

I just got my tracking # from frys.com. Scheduled delivery is the 12th. Can't wait to upgrade from Athlon 64 3000+!
