The floor model is a 5312 and the one in this deal is a 5105. When i bought my 5105 then the salesguy showed me the 5312 demo and said its exactly the same except that it uses an intel chip, theres no wireless and the mem/hdd is lower. But when i got home i discovered it doesnt have the S-Vid, Parallel or Firewire. So that was my basis on returning my 5105.

Still, those ports arent important to most people since at this price then this is still 2x more powerful than anything else you can get for $600. Its definitely a very powerful and quality machine despite what the anti-emachines morons will try to tell you.

One of my local BBs has X1050 in stock but claims the price is more like $2k minus rebates. Since it is no longer on their site, is there any way to get this significantly reduce $1150 price before rebates?? Or will it just ring up at the right price. I would just hit the BB and find out myself but its a good drive, 20+mi each way.

My local BB lists the X1050 as $1149 - $350 rebates ... however they said would PM another BB just need the phone number.

According to elanarchist the Ithaca NY BB (store 384, phone 607-257-6824) had the X1050 for $1149 - $350.

If your local BB can PM them that would be awesome.

I got the last one here yesterday, but it rang up as $1150. Id drive the 20 miles and go to the register with. Don't waste time asking the price. If it's not $1150 just walk out. I'm thinkin that it's prob 98% chance of being $1150

Damn these tempting laptop deals. I ahve wanted a laptop for a very long time, but have been holding back, since I don't really have the money.

Just called my closest bestbuy and they, as well as all other surrounding stores are sold out. He said he thinks there was 1 left at the begining of the day in Ohio, but its about 40 miles each way, and probablly gone by now anyways. Oh well, prolly for the better.

Any ideas what the Compaq X1050 rebates were? I just bought one last week, and the rebates were $300. While that's great, another $50 would have been better. I'm wondering which one changed or got added... And further if I can get it applied since I bought so recently.

Mine were $50 (from Best Buy), $100 (from Compaq), and $150 (Forgot where it got sent to). I actually went down to the post office just today to send them out with delivery confirmation.

Noticed the 1050 is totally off the website now. If anyone's in the Mpls /St. Paul area, BB on White Bear & 694 had a couple left this weekend, supposedly 7 of them. Anywhere you go or call though, make sure they are looking at the right one! I had a wild goose chase around town before I bought mine, the guys on the phone saw the 1030's on hand and told me to come down. Wasn't the one I was looking for though...

BTW, SKU# 5990323 shows the 1030, strange. Is your # right, or is it just pulling the next closest match I wonder?

The 1050 sku is 6108838

From FW:

1. offer: 40006 $100 Compaq Offer FWNB03 Dates: 09/10/03 to 03/01/04
2. offer: 41679 $150 BestBuy Rebate# 41679 Dates: 12/14/03 to 12/20/03
3. offer: 42352 $100 BestBuy Rebate# 42352 Dates: 12/14/03 to 12/20/03

Best Buy Rebate Center

If you want to get in on this weeks rebates then you need to go to best buy and RETURN/REBUY the laptop so that it has this weeks dates. If you use your old reciept then it will get rejected since it doesnt fit into the qualifying rebate dates.

I have a question:

In Miami and the Dadeland BB there are nine left now. It rang up as 1450 minus 350 MIRs (even though I swear the salesperson on the phone confirmed it at 1150 before rebates). Anyhow, I didn't want to miss out so I bought it and figured I'd go back to PM.

Do you think they'll PM another BB store, even if the store is out of stock?

I'm obviously referring to the Ithaca store... I won't open it so that I can always return it, but figure that its still a decent price and I need a laptop anyway. However, if you any of you can post your experience it'll save me the trouble of fighting that holiday traffic and those long lines. Thank you.

ahhh... good call, you're right. I'm going to call them again. Over the phone they said they have the 1050, so hopefully its in the back somewhere. When I bought the laptop I was just hoping it would ring up at the lower price.

Thanks!

Hey Visions, I just moved to Jax from Miami Beach in June. :) One thing I will say about Sofla, doesn't seem like too many FW/AT'ers are down there, plus there are a ton of stores, so you generally have a few of each killer deal item in stock at one of the stores inside 20mi driving distance. Not quite as nice in Jax but nicer for other reasons. :)

Didn't get a chance to hit that BB today but I am going tomorrow morning to check it out. Of course I need a new laptop like another hole in my head. But I think I can get some good money on this Toshiba since its mint condition less than 1yr old etc, so the $200 (guessing) to upgrade is WELL worth it.

Hi wfay, Nice to hear there are good deals to be had here in So. Florida. I actually moved here from SoCal.. Lol. Anyhow, I just checked my email and noticed there is a new 15% off at Dell SB, so now I'm considering getting a widescreen latitude.. choices choices... Wish I could cruise this board as much as i used to :)

edit: I just checked and its a one time use code.. I'm going to use it tomorrow if I can't get an x1050, so hopefully everyone who wants one has received the email as well.

The Beaverton BB should have some X1050's in stock this Friday 12/19 just 1 day before the rebate expires.

  • Mobile AMD Athlon? XP-M processor 2200+, Barton core CPU; 128KB L1 cache + 512KB L2, 166 FSB
256MB DDR SDRAM, expandable to 768MB (1.25GB with 1.0GB SoDIMM)
    DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive; 8x max. DVD-ROM; 24x10x24 CD-RW
    14.1 XGA TFT display
    30.0GB hard drive
S3 Savage 8 GFX graphics, with up to 32MB shared video memory
Integrated 10/100 Fast Ethernet LAN network card
    V.90 high-speed modem
    4 high-speed USB 2.0 ports
    Weighs about 5.3 lbs./about 1" thick
The machine doesn't have any S-video, parallel, wireless, serial or firewire ports, but plenty of USB 2.0 ports and 1 PCMCIA slot. The video is nothing to write home about, but OK for playing DVDs (I hope) & the AMD Athlon XP absolutely spanks the Celeron line and even comparably clocked P-IVs according to this recent Anandtech Budget CPU Shoot-out.
Plus the rebate amount is lower and the final price is as low or lower than the Intel lappies. Also, the Medion is a pound or so lighter than the alternatives & generally smaller in other dimensions as well. Anyway, I ordered one and intend to kick up the RAM to 392 MB or so when I see a good deal and maybe eventually get a wireless NIC so I can use the net in places that provide wireless access.

Are there any reviews? I've never heard of that company and it appears that they are only sold at best buy. The deal looks good though.

I considered the Medion but I had a couple of reservations. First, the S3 Savage video is incredibly slow for gaming. Secondly, the battery life is pitiful - about an hour and a half on account of the power hungry Athlon XP. Quality wise though, I heard that Medion is big in Europe and a respectable brand. I'd go for it if weight is paramount, although the battery life kinda defeats the purpose.

According the the people on the FW forums, doing that has a high chance of invalidating the MIR's.

I agree, you'd be taking a big risk of losing the Best Buy rebates that way. Best Buy rebates don't allow pricematching.

I ordered my Compaq x1050 from the website on 12/10 finally arrived yesterday. All I can say is WoW. If you have to drive 40 miles for this do it.

Thanks for the info. I'm not too worried about the graphics because it's for my sister and she wont be doing any gaming but the battery is a huge negative:(

How so? Basically what i would be doing is returning it (invalidating the old MIR's) and rebuying it for the same original price, it would be a NEW sale, and the 350 in rebates should print out, right?

wow, I actually found one today in the NoVa/DC area.

Just to inform people I was unlucky at the BB's in:

Pentagon City
Baileys XRoads
Potomac Yards
Tysons Corner

Got lucky at the BB in Tenleytown, DC. I only saw the one that I bought but a BB guy at Tysons was nice enough to check the stock for the 1050 and informed that it said there were 3 in stock at Tenleytown according to the computer at around 4 pm this afternoon.

It rang up at $1,149 with the $350 in rebates. The manager was in awe :)
