Just a reminder, the BIG president's Day sales start next Sun. 2-17, and there may or may not be CD-RW deals that are just as good or better than these. Of course you can buy now and return it later if something better shows up.

I/O Magic MagicWriter (DR-CDRW2440) 24x10x40x $89.99 - $10 mail-in rebate - $25 off $100 coupon (add $10.01 worth of stuff to reach $100) = $54.99.

Link to MagicWriter rebate. Claims must be postmarted within (7) days of purchase.

Some of the MagicWriter drives are rebadged Lite-on mfg drives. Link to Lite-on 24x review

CenDyne 16x10x40 $89.99 - $30 mail-in rebate - $25 off $100 coupon (add $10.01 worth of stuff to reach $100) = $34.99

So far everyone has has received a Accesstek mfg Drive CenDyne drive

You can use one or both of these free after $10 rebate items (phone & caller ID) to get the order of near $100, to use the $25 off $100 coupon or the $25 off $100 coupon code #????. These are first time customer coupons, so I'm sure everyone know now be a first time customer.
Jellybean Plum Caller ID & Trim Style Phone

12 Pack of Pens ($1.49) Item # 10119025 with a $1.49 rebate (warning both the phone - caller ID and the 12 Pack of Pens require the original receipt, so I would send in a copy of the shipping slip in with the pens rebate)

<< Anyone know who is the mfg for the I/O Magic MagicWriter? >>

In response to this, from the review:

<< I/O Magic's MagicWriter is the same mechanism as the one in the Lite-On LTR-24102B drive. >>

Guess that answers the question. Smells like Rebadge Lite-On to me.

This is a hot deal. I still don't see the appeal of spending an extra $100 on a 24x, 32x, etc burner. Why do you need to burn a cd in less that 5 minutes?

dealcatcher has the coupon if anyone is looking for it.

Mods - I will delete the coupon mention if this violates posting policy.

This is a good deal. Just got my cendyne burner. May be time to get another one already.

I heard that I/O are horrible on rebates.

so this is online or B&M?
reason I ask is because I was considering the 16x10x40 from OfficeMax for $99 - but 10 dollar price cut makes this even nicer

BUUUUUUT...

just checked OM Online and only Cendyne listed is 8Xsomething... I tried to buy it yesterday - they had it in stock, but couldn't get the $25 off 100 to work for me...

Ditto, but OM rebates are great, at least they were until they closed my local Santa Maria store.

The Cendyne 24x10x40 will be on sale again starting 2-10 at Officemax for about $45 after all coupons and MIR. But, it's already out of stock in my area of Phila., PA. How can that be since the sale doesn't start until 2-10? I got mine during the last sale a couple of weeks ago for $45 after MIR. It's agreat burner made even better with Clone CD and the utility program ClonyXL.

The Cendyne 24x10x40 for about $45 after all coupons and MIR, mush be a local sale price. The in-store ad on their web site for the L.A. area doesn't show that drive in the ad only the Cendyne 16x and the I/O Magic 24x.

The deal for the 16x Cendyne drive is probably will not be on-line, but beside buying it at the stores you will probably be able to order it over the phone and use the $25 off $100 coupon code.

Just so you know, the drive that I got a few weeks back on this deal from I/O magic was actually an Aopen, NOT a lite-on as menioned before. This was not an issue for me, as the Aopen reads a bit faster then the Lite-on, BUT it will NOT do SD2. In fact, I believe the only 24x burner that will do this now is Lite-on, at least with the newest firmwares on all of them.

A number of people have said that the I/O Magic drive they received were rebagded Lite-on mfg drives. It's not unual for a company that sells CD-RW drives to have drives from more than one mfg.

Also Aopen drive can do SafeDisc2, using CloneCD and doing a little tweaking. And Lite-on is not the only 24x drive that can copy SafeDisc2 CDs.

VTBigBear....(ill try...

but do you ppl know if OM accepts coupons? B&M i mean

If you printout the coupon page and take that to the store they will give you the discount, it's up to the manager to accept the the coupon or not.

Hmm...this may not be as hot a deal as was initially announced, unless I'm doing something wrong. When I go to purchase the 24x I/O Magic CD-RW online, it already shows up as $89.99 in my cart, so I can't apply the $25 off $100 coupon (unless I add things that equal $10.01 or more). So it looks like to purchase this thing online, it's gonna cost you at least $65 AR. This may work in the B&Ms, but since the item is already ringing up online at $89.99, then I doubt if you could get a store manager to accept the $25 coupon (without adding $10.01 to your order). It may be worth a shot, though. This still sounds like a good deal to me - just wanted to point out that it will cost you a bit more.

Is there any way to tell if the Magicwriter is a Liteon without opening the box (like it saying Smartburn on the box or something)?

Got one this morning at OMax B&M. First max had no stock and I was there when they opened. I had them call around and find me one (manager at first store would not substitute, or help me in any other way, and was kind of rude, despite the fact that she had no stock of something that ran in THAT morning's ad). Anyway, I found one at another store.

$90 for the drive
$22 for a 50-pack of 24X CD-Rs (Imation)
-$25 coupon (Omax online coupon that a nice manager at the second store honored)
-$10 rebate on drive
-$14 rebate on CD-Rs
___________
$63 plus tax for the 24X burner and a 50-pack of 24X CD-Rs

The drive was a Lite-On LTR-24102B, and was recognized by the computer as a Lite-On.

A side note on the CD-Rs. Be careful which spindle you grab. Some are marked as 16X and some are marked as 24X. The UPC code is the SAME, and when I took the 24X spindle to the register, it rang up as 16X.

Good deal.

Look at the information for buying the 16x CenDyne on the original post at the beginning of this thread.

Simply look at the Manufactures license plate on the drive itself.

If it says LTR-24102B to the right of the silver I/O Magic sticker on the top of the drive, then it is a Lite-On.

Sweet, thanks guys.

So if it's not a Lite On, then it's a Mitsumi or some other generic brand?

It was kind of a strange package. It was a Lite-On drive with an I/O Magic sticker over the Lite-On name, which came with a piece of Digital Research 4X CD-RW media, and a manual which pictured a BTC drive. So I would say you might get a Lite-On, or a BTC. I have also heard of people getting a Mitsumi, which is a quality drive, but won't do a couple of tricks that the Lite-On will. I normally don't buy "mystery drives", but for $63 with a 50-Pack of 24X CD-Rs, I figured what the hell. I'm glad I took the chance. :) It also came with Nero 5.5 (the OEM version that only works with a Lite-On drive, and does not require a serial number, but is upgradable by downloading the update).
