Officemax.com has I/O Magic 24X10X40 CDRW drive (item#20093890) for 84.99. There is some $10 off $50 coupon around (e.g jumpondeals.com), and there is a $15 MIR.
Total 60 shipped.

But there is also a $25 off $100 coupon, if you need some $15 office supply, then your drive will be 85 -15 MIR -25 coupon = 45.

There is a Canned Air (item#02229038) Free AR 3.89, Cyber Acoustics Micro (item#14265877) Free AR 4.99 that you can throw in and make it around $55.

pro: only $15 MIR
con: drive quality unknown, some ppl said I/O magic rebate is slow.

Lite-On seems like the choice drives to get... everyone's looking for rebadged Lite-On 24x and 32x drives selling for less... but I wanted to ask about their 16x drives. Are they also top quality? I'm looking at getting a good quality one with decent DAE speed and I really like the 24x Lite-On drives that I've used, but I want to buy a cheap one for a friend who doesn't need anything faster than 16x.

I'm also looking at LG's CDRW/DVD combo drive, 12x8x8x32. Has anyone heard anything good/bad with this drive?

<< Anyone know what brand of drives IOMagic rebadges? Serial Numbers? >>

at IOMAGIC review page, the review quote PC world Jan 2002 as a LiteOn.
However at its driver page here talks about made by BTC

and some said got acer 2410a in the iomagic support forum

Whenever I see an I/O Magic ad w/rebate, I just pass it up. Getting rebates from these people without placing a few phone calls is not uncommon with them.

you have to send in the rebate quick after you buy it (7days) and there is a rebate status checking on their web site. Have not buy a iomagic item with rebate so personally can not say if they are good or bad.
From other member here, most will not like it.

And i do not like compusa and officedepot 's rebate too. way too long...

don't want to thread crap, but I will I/O Magic rebate crap. Those guys are the slowest thing on this planet for rebate returns. I've almost given up on them.

Just my $0.02.

Got mine today.
The sticker on the Top of the driver said LTR-24102B. So i guess its a Lite-On. There is a IO magic label put over part of the org. sticker. Possible blocking the name.
I will install it later.

Just as a warning: Bought one drive, and it was a BTC. TOok it back (in another state, no less) for an exchange and again got a BTC. Did it one more time, and got an acer.

So, if you really want a lite-on, be aware that it may take a few attempts.

I am in NJ, and OM send them in one day. May be ppl at NJ (not in DC as MontyBurns get BTC
) can try and report if they get Lite-on or not.

looks like i got the acer (has PW near the end of the serial)...this is in the sf bay area...seemed to have shipped form hayward...going to return this one...

got the BTC drive through their web site, so I took it back to the store and a nice cashier let me went through all the ones they have until I found the lite-on I thought that was cool!.

how do u know its lite-on? anything from outside of box? Mine printed nothing outside until u open it up and see the drive label thro the clear plastic wrap.

lsman,

There was no marking on the box at all. The cashier brought out 5 wraped boxes and she said I could open them all. I was lucky because the second one I opened was a lite-on.

i am speechless....:Q

I got mine on Friday as well...

It looks like an Acer. I'll give it a shot to change it in my local store today. If they don't change, I think I'll just keep it...

I got problems with other item though. First of all, they sent me only one original receipt, and I need three for the drive, speaker and microphone rebates... I called them back about it, and they said they could fax me a receipt, but it will still be a copy.. Any suggestions on that?

Second of all, the UPC of the canned air is again pressed on the can itself, no stickers to remove...

Looks like I won't be able to get 9 + 5 + 4 dollars of the rebates :|

Edit: I just tried to change the cd-writer in the local store. The guy in the store was very helpful and opened two packages for me, but unfortunately both of them came out as Acer like the first one. So I didn't insist and get back the first one...

About the mic and speaker rebates: Yes, they look like a single rebate on the rebate form on the web site, however two seperate rebate forms came out in the packages itself... However receipt is still a problem, and I don't think I'll get those... Now I'm thinking about wasting one more buck on postage or not 😛

speaker and mic are the same rebate. send in both will almost void one of them, so if i were u, i return one of those.
