Any thoughts on the 4 MB you can choose from:
asus z87-pro: alc 1150, 8sata ports, display port
MSI z87-g45: 6 sata ports; alc1150, no display port
gigabyte z87x-ud3: 8 sata ports, alc898, no display port
asrock xtreme6: 10 sata ports, alc 1150, display port.

The GA-Z87X-UD3H in the deal has displayport.

any idea how much % performance increase id receive upgrading a i5-750 to 4770k? I already know my ssd would love it.

approx. 15-25% speed improvement if both are at the same clock, depending on application.

A decent improvement, but as noted, there really aren't a lot of applications pushing the CPU to the max these days.

The platform improvements are definitely nice. Much lower idle & loaded power consumption for a given clock speed, 6GB SATA ports, USB3 ports, etc...

I decided to bite coming from that generation too, but I was on an i3-530 (@4GHz), which is significantly slower per clock than an i5-750, with Haswell offering ~40-50% per clock improvement and the 2 real cores vs my current 2C + HT. I still wonder if it will even be noticeable, as I don't really think I see much CPU limitation. We'll see, I guess.

I have been debating the same upgrade. If you are running your i5-750 at stock clocks, the difference seems to be substantial:

Still, the 750 still seems pretty snappy for most things .... ahh, decisions.

Oops, that was upgrading to the 4670.

Here is the comparison to the i7 (where the i5-750 pretty much gets creamed):

yep, they are shipping C1 SB
Couldnt Intel wait a month?
Are they going to offer first adapters new SB exchange?
Or just leave things as is?

Nice deal. Jumped on the 4670 with the Asrock board. I'm moving up from an old Phenom II, so it's kind of academic for me how much faster Haswell is compared to IB.

Thank you, sir.

I feel better now for holding off.

I have been hearing that the C1 south bridge stepping bug is not really that big of a deal. Atleast for me it doesn't sound like very much.. I'm just having a hard time deciding which board I want to get with the 4670k.

Here's my reason:
I sleep my computer a lot and I had another board (a P5Q Pro) with USB/sleep issues back in the day. I can say from experience that it's damned annoying and I don't want to go through that again, so for me it's a deal-breaker.
That having been said, it was down to the ASUS or the Gigabyte for me, because those are my two go-to brands, though I think think that the MSI would be perfectly adequate for anyone on a budget.

I don't have any major computer part retailers near me so I order everything online. I was planning on a build within the next year. Do you think another deal like this will occur within the next year or is this deal so good that I should jump on it now? I only upgrade every 3 to 5 years.

Well, if this is a move by Intel to subsidize the clearing out of imperfect hardware, then its a one shot deal and you should jump on it. Actually, I cant remember any rollout of a new mobo series that were heavily discounted right at the time of intro - and its hanging around too.

Personally speaking, I had intended to get the Deluxe which is $290 plus $29 tax (for me) plus $8 ship or $327 total. As a matter of principal, I aint spending that much money for something that isnt right - and I NEVER sleep a PC!!
But thats just me.
:p:p:p

Yesterday Newegg had a deal with a 4670k, Asus Z87-A, 8gb ram, 1tb hdd, case, psu for ~489, I jumped on it. Saved about $120+ on teh build, used the money on an SSD instead.

So the question about the C1 stepping doesnt seem to bother me much, I rarely hibernate with a USB HDD plugged in. I am more worried about CPU temps. Lets see when NE sends their will call pickup notice. I cant wait to build a new machine for my birthday this weekend. It would be nice to let Lightroom finally do its thing!

That's a new promotion on the CPUs, in place of the free copy of Grid 2.

Yeah, I rather get the $15 gift card. I'm going to get some new front fans with the extra $$. :)

I think I am going to pull the trigger on the 4670 + MSI board today. I have been trying to be strong but I feel my will power fading.

me too...really wanted to wait until Steamroller came out to make an informed decision on my next rig...but this deal plus the underwhelming amount of info from AMD, might just force my hand...

And just for the record, the MSI board at first had gone out of stock. Right at the moment I had finally decided to go for it. Luckily within two days or so they had more stock, but who knows! Just think it's worth mentioning.

They also had a $100 off deal with 16gb of GSKILL 1866mhz RAM. Looks like its over now though.

Gigabyte UD4H is a good mobo to combo with in this bundle.

I tbink that was the better deal....Surprised nobody posted it.

I picked up a 4670k on the tigerdirect deal. Hoping Costa Rica has decent results....Only shooting for 4.2ghz or so anyways.

The TD $199 4670k and the memory/mobo deal would have been the best combo ever. Especially for those who don't have a microcenter.
