So came home after charging all day to play with the phone (A900). As most people called in to see if the picture text messaging was in order, it was not. The woman on the phone fixed it (my first try) in 10 minutes after I directed her to the SERO website. Only been at home and made 2 calls, sound quality seems just as good as my Cingular if not better. The internet is awesome and FAST. I havn't really tried all the neat features (like wireless internet with laptop) but I am sure it works. Beaming numbers from old phone to A900 through bluetooth is a god send. So far very happy with every, except the number I got isn't the easiest to remember, but no biggy 8)

(I didn't search through the thread to see if it was already noted, but...)

FYI:
I got a text message today from Sprint saying
"A Phone-As-Modem data plan is required to connect your phone to a PC for Internet connectivity. Please contact Sprint customer care via *2 to learn more."

So, for those of you who have been using your phone that way... keep an eye out.

I'm also in NYC, with A900. Service is not that bad, but Verizon was definatly better, in terms of covarage and reception.
Question, were you or anyone else charged tax on your phone order? It seems I got charged NYC tax, when this was shipping from different state. And the rep after talking to his supervisor came back with "this is government tax, since phone was heavily discounted"
That company has the worst rating on BBB, eh... that explains it.
Just get your phone from them, and RUN... :)

How much did you use your phone as a modem via the Dial Up Networking?

Not too much, a mabybe 3-4 times just to surf and look up some stuff. Maybe a little IMing... Not like downloading or anything.

I was on sprintusers and it seems that a lot of people are getting the msg, even people who claim they've never used their phones as modems.

So I don't know what exactly is going on, but just FYI.

Great. They are trying to "clamp down" on the casual users now.

Maybe I should've gotten the 6700 rather than the A900. But the 6700 sucks ass as a PDA.

This is the greatest plan by a factor of two (x2) since my first cell phone (that cost $1,000/mo in '89, incidently). I could not be happier with the level of service and the attributes of the plan; of course, if they wanted to give away the company, I would stand in line for that. :D:D:D
I did not see anywhere in this plan that modem use was allowed - at all.

I didn't get charged any taxes. I payed straight $199, but I got it directly through Sprint (didn't go through the iphonic website). How much did you pay for your phone? The A900 looks and works great, the only complaint is the battery life. Especially with unlimited data, means you can surf to your hearts desire = battery going down quick.

No but minor casual use was tolerated for a long time. But looks like the free ride is over.

The only phone that is exempt from this is the HTC-6700.

You didn't happen to install Sprint's Connection Manager software, did you?

Nope... just plugged it in via the supplied cable (I have the A900 too) installed the drivers from Samsung and dialed #777.

Still:
We're sorry, this is offer is not available in your area. However, you may be eligible for other great Sprint offers

So much for being available starting Jan 26th in the Alamosa area.

I paid $200, plus stupid NYC tax ($17.something). Which, like in your case, I don't believe I should have been charged, but iphonics sucks real bad, and their indian cust. reps do as well. So do their supervisors :)
And so, not only that, they do false advertisement, I wanted to file a complaint with BBB, but now I don't think I'm going to waste my time, they are full of complaints on BBB. BBB won't even call them part of BBB companies, because they also think - they suck :)

How did you get your phone from sprint? B&M? Some people have been able to get B&M get them SERO, then u can really get a hot deal, by pricematching the phone.

Other than that, I like my phone a lot. Overall I'm happy with it, except for the battery life. When I surf the internet, the battery does go down pretty quickly too. The battery life should improve, after using it for week or two, but still is not as good as most other phones. I've also tried letting it completely discharge, before charging again for the first week. I've heard it helps with battery life.

I was charged tax when I ordered my phone & service from Sprint via phone. I live in TN. Was I supposed to be tax-free? Also, BB has the A900 this week for $149.99 w/no rebates. I paid $199.99 via phone order. U think a local Sprint store will p/m BB for me?

If you've ordered from sprint, they probably do charge you tax, since they have physical location in your state. My order came from inphonics, which is located in DC (not sure), and order shipped from Maryland(?) or some other state.
Price matching in store a phone you bought online, most likely you'll be refused. Since, you didn't buy it in store. However, I'm not sure what's sprint's policy on price guarantee for online purchases. You may want to check it out.
I tried asking people working in a store, two people working there were clueless that this program exists.
If you bought your phone from store and don't get lucky, finding a right person, you got to do your research before, then demand to speak to the manager.
There are also mixed reports, some say it's 14 day price guarantee, some say 30.

Thx, id3dwiz. That makes sense about the sales tax. I believe I had a Sprint csr tell me the store could p/m a Sprint telephone purchase but I could be wrong. Of course, talk is cheap as we're finding out. I'll check it out and let ATHD'ers know.

I took the bait and just got a a900 on the SERO plan. I've been a low budget prepaid type up until now so this phone is awesome with all the features. I signed up online with a real referral and received the phone in 2 days.

I can't believe all the taxes being applied to the plan however. Not counting the extra $5 for 7pm nights I didn't order, the taxes come to $8.01, thus a total monthly bill of $44.14.

I called customer service and could barely hear him over what sounded like a party line. I could hear other callers and phones slamming down in the background-awful. I hope this isn't representative of Sprint service. They agreed to take the 7pm nights off but it hasn't shown up in my online account yet.

I think everyone gets 7pm nights added, I did too, and I unchecked the option during purchase, no problem, they were more than willing to take it off.
Taxes are right. You probably meant to say your bill was something like $39 something, $44.14 with $5 7pm nights? We all pay same taxes, 8 bucks is about what I pay in NYC.
Btw, when using verizon, on top of govt taxes they charged their own administrative fees, so it wasn't fun at all, even though they have the best network.

Everybody is saying they got charged tax, but when I asked the guy on the phone for the amount being put on my card, he said $199. I am starting to think I too probably got charged tax, but he never mentioned it.

I used to pay $12 to $15 worth of taxes on my ATT/Cingular phone, then add $1.75 for some stupid service charge from them. It randonly showed up on my bill 1 month so I called it. I was explained it was a charge every Cingular costumer was being charged, though not exactly what that charge is. Shouldn't that be breach of contract? "Hey I know how to make us an extra $20,000,000 a year.......we add a $1.75 service charge, and tell them it's mendatory, but not really explain what it's for."

I was disappointed today when I went to my GFs house (Bay Ridge, Brooklyn). I noticed on my phone the letter R near my signal bars. I soon found out what that meant when I tried to make a call. The phone said "you're roaming and may experience additional charges, press 1 to make the call". I wasn't 100% sure that the plan had no roaming charges, so I didn't go ahead with the call. Can anyone tell me whether I'd get charged extra if roaming? Also I attempted to use my web at her house, "Sorry the WEB does not work outside the Sprint coverage area". What that means if you're not ON SPRINT's network, no web (though you can still make calls). So I figure unless you're in a large city, there is no web., which sucks a lot. One of the reasons I got it, was if I go away for a weekend, I don't need to bring my laptop as all I want to do is check my emails.

I ordered directly from Sprint, and was told it was 14 days to return with no penalties. IPhonic might be different. I got another 1.2 weeks to return if I find other "shortcomings".

bughill99, did your discount still apply? I called customer service today to switch to these plans. After some discussion and confirmation of terms, they were willing to switch me to these plans, but I was told my employer discount would not apply anymore. They said it was due to the SERO plan already including a discount. Of course, I would like to get this and continue to get another 23% off.

Does anyone else have experience with business volume discounts and these plans?

NYCFella,

I had a similiar experience I called sprint and was assured that I wouldn't be charged the CSR said the phones are programmed to warn but the sero plan has no roaming He read the SERO contract. SOo unless he was wrong We're both cool.
