Get it at Crutchfield and use Passport Express Purchase. Then price match using AMEX Blue with
electronics e mall. IMHO this is the best Car Stereo in its price range.

$400 Stereo
$ 10 Shipping

-80 MSN Promo
-145 Blue PM
_____

$185 Total

You also get $25 off if you know someone with a Crutchfield Customer ID. PM me if you can't find one.

Edit: Read below for a cheaper place to PM making it $157. Thanks to Go_Unix.

I've got this stereo in my Jeep - it's very nice. Plays MP3 CD-R's flawlessly, showing ID3 tags, etc. My only complaint is that the buttons, and labels are VERY small - you have to have good eyes (and coordination) to hit the right button on it. This is a good deal. I got mine on www.ubid.com a few months ago for about $280, and I thought I got a good deal at that price...

That is a good deal...cheapest I've seen is $255 - I know - because I want to buy one :(

However, I have no Amex card so I might as well forget it ;)

Sorry to say this, but if you worry about your friends laughing at you for having a JVC head unit I'd question your priorities.... and ask your friends the same question.

Hell, once upon a time people laughed at Japanese cars...who's laughing now?....;)

I'm just winding ya up dude...but seriously the JVC is one of the most popular units going and widely praised :D

Sony use to be the Best, but with all their Xplod junk, JCV is at the top of my list now.
I just hope they come out with a 12disc MP3 changer, now that would be HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont know what you have against JVC, but I own this head unit and its an awesome MP3 player. Reads ID3 tags, does randomize across disc, and sounds great in my car. I'm not an audiophile or a ricer so I'm not on the up and up with whats hot looking or a cool brand name, but I'm 100% pleased with the KD-SH99. I previously owned an older non-MP3 JVC CD player and I was equally pleased with the unit.

You can check out some user reviews and comparisons with other MP3 units at highwaymp3.com

I'm going back home to the UK on Friday evening and I'm gonna check out just how much the black versions are compared to the US versions ;)

Best case scenario will probably be same price in Pounds as Dollars though I guess.... :(

Sony was NEVER the best at car audio. JVC is certainly not the best either, but for the price with the features, this is one HOT deal.

So umm.. has someone actually done this? Because reading through the Amex policies it says the price you're trying to match must be advertised in print... which sounds a lot different than on some webpage that sells at wholesale prices.

And just to comment.. no, Sony was never the best. Eclipse used to be in my opinion... but their stuff has been breaking alot lately.. so its tough to say.

At this price, it's almost a steal!! This JVC will stand up to most players that cost $300-$350, at this price, NO COMPLAINTS! Sure there are better players, but not everyone has $1000 for a cd player. Also, most people could not tell the difference in a blind fold test. I know I can't :)

sorry to bust your bubble guys but sony does have 1 reciever that has gotten a lot of praises by the car audiophiles
cdx-c90
it's an expensive unit but by far still one of the best on the market today

but all their other decks just suck heh, too bad really

i've use the jvc-sh99 for awhile and it is an extremely nice unit, 2nd best mp3 deck out right now (alpine cda-7878 being the best) and is a very solid unit. it has 24bit burr-brown DAC, 4v preouts, motorized face and remote, and a clean/solid interface look. can't beat the price. and whoever bags on jvc should reconsider on this unit. i'm using an eclipse deck right now and although it does have a cleaner sound, i still wished i kept the sh99.

and you can buy a processor that'll compensate for the lack of SQ coming from mp3s (because of their compressed nature) called the audiocontrol HPX. i have yet to hear an actual setup using this but its supposed to be pretty damn good. Audiocontrol in general makes excellent products.

ok enough, this is a computer hardware forum, not a car audio one :)

WTH- buyer beware, the price for this player in december was 325.00(that is after i think a $40MIR) me, ask how come such a steep price drop? the answer may be the following:
when i was at CC checking this and another one out(they only had two at that time- too early for Mp3 dash players)... it didn't read the mp3 cd collection that i had brought.... i don't know why.... i even remember going to bestbuy thinking that maybe the player @CC didn't work but it didn't....I dunno....:D

I believe the player they sell at CC and BestBuy is the KD-SH77 not the KD-SH99. The KD-SH77 looks exactly the same as the KD-SH99 except it lacks the MP3 CD playing capability of the 99. The KD-SH77 still says MP3 on it though because it has a Line-Input that can be used to hook up an external MP3 player. So if you were looking at the KD-SH77 thats why it wouldn't play your MP3 discs. Also, the KD-SH99 only reads ISO-Level 2 naming schemes and cannot read CDs burned with the Joliet file naming scheme. This could have also contributed to your problem. I personally own the KD-SH99 and I haven't had any problems getting it to read any of the CDs I threw at it as long as I burned them properly.

This is an awesome deal for an awesome unit! I got this the day it came out (for free from the insurance co. cause some jackass stole my other deack) and I definitely recommend it.

As far as Amex goes, you print the web page and fax it in. I've never had any problems.

guys, i've got a 99 Honda? would the installation be a pain? i've a tape deck not a CD one, factory one? what do u guys think?
reason i am asking is that i want to keep the tape deck, and maybe put this in right below it? you guys think it would be possible? anybody with experience?

ok, some more questions guys? i really want to jump on this one(unlke the 100GB from SAMS that i don't know how the HELL i missed...will never repeat that ! i swear!)

1) when the player continues from a previous session, does it start from the very beginning or does it continue from the start of the mp3 that was last playing or, from the point it stopped in the mp3 that it was playing?(hope it makes sense)
2) the tuners good(i.e, if i have to get rid of the factory head unit, i want to have good receivers)
3) the tags long enough, and recognizable enough, or is it as bad in terms of ID tags, as the kenwoods that we saw from sears few months ago?
i would really appreciate it if somebody could answer some of these questions! thanks

i agree...thank god i bought my sony before that hoakey xplod cr@p started commin out

bought my little bro the jvc for his xmas present...and it's great!

very solid build, and the face is real metal...not painted to look like metal plastic

the only thing we can't figure out is how to display id3 tags...do we have to burn cd's in iso9660 format in order for that to work?

actually, there is one complaint...is there any way to advance thru mp3 files faster than just hitting the "next" button? couldn't find any info in the manual

thanks!
