Thanks for the information. I called my local Staples last night and explained what I was knew about the D135 substitution for the G85. They had no idea what I was talking about but to there credit they researched it per my request, called me back, and I bought two D135s last night. $399.00 - $200.00 -$30.00 (30 off 150 coupon) + the additional $80.00 Staples gift card is on its way. Great deal. Great machine.

Did the manager order for you guys by means of the website or did they call in? Too bad I do not have a staples in my area. Do you think they would allow me to order from that location if I called in? Can someone inform me of the staples' zipcode or store number? I would love to get in on this deal. Thanks! BTW, staples online still has the G85 in stock and will not sell the D135 with the 200 discount.

THIS IS REDICULOUS. I just spoke with one of my local staples and explained to him the situation that their manager should have received a memo about this substitution. He put me on hold and went to check and came back and said very politely if any memo was sent out that his manager did not receive it .
Then I called 1 800 STAPLE. I spoke with a relatively nice lady and explained that I understood from someone I know that Staples is allowing this substitution and that the local manager told me he knows nothing of it. She first said they could back order it but would not substitute. Then I told her I couldn't get a straight story on whether or not this model is discontinued. She checked the SKU and said it is a closeout model. She then agreed to go and speak with her manager. She came back and told me that Staples had not agreed to substitute for this model. Simply when it was OOS it was gone and no more. It just doesn't make sense that you guys are getting this and I can't get anyone to that knows anything about it. Can someone please scan me a receipt that I might be able to show the store and prove it to them. Blank out any CC # or whatever you need to do. I would much appreciate it. That to me seems like the only way I might get this to work. Thank you very much.

Rhodent, here's something that a member of FW posted....

If you guys run into trouble with these managers do this (we did at one store and it worked)..

1) GET THE NAME OF THE MANANGER (read his/her name tag)

2) Call the office of the president: 1-800-338-0252 (this is not the regular 1-800-staples line). Staples inc are 2 entities, online and storefront. They are ran as separate divisions and deals instore does not mean you will find it online and vice versa.

3) Try a regular CSR , if she/he gives you static, call back and punch in extensiosn 30920 , her name is Kris.

4) Explain that a manger has not recieved or refuse to honor the G85 subsitiution on the front page of this weeks circular. She is well aware of the situation.

5) Give her the managers name and store location. She will put you on hold and CALL the mananger and inform him/her of the deal (this is a legit Staples deal so YMMV should not apply here)

6) Walk back in smiling and ask for the manager. He/she will return either humble or with an attitude. Either way you'll get the deal.

7) When they start to check you out, slap the 30 off 150 down on the table and yell "DOMINO!" (detroit thing).

8) Walk out as if you are king/queen for the day.

We have done this and it works
Dont accept that "we will order the g85" crap, tell them you need a printer TODAY!!

I called the presidents number and spoke with a CSR. She told me if the item is out of stock that it is their responsibility to track it down for me. I asked what about the substitution of the D135 and she said they must exersize all efforts to track down the g85 first and that she'd cross that bridge when she got to it. When I hung up she was going to contact the store manager and inform him that he must track down the printer in by every means possible and she said the store would be contacting me within 3 days. 3 days doesn't seem right The sale will be over by Sat. So I called back to the extension given above and was taken to kris's voice mail as she is on another call. I left a voice mail with my # but who knows if she'll actually take the time to return my call. Thanks for the help..I'm still trying.

I just got this printer HP D135 for $399-$200-$30 staple e-mail cupon thread. ===$184.00 and $80 gift card by MIR.

But I read the rebate guidelines, it says offer not valid with any other rebates, offers or promotion. I then called the rebate center by phone with a supervisor, who said yes I will not get the rebate since, $30 store cupon and also $200 store cupon subsitute offer for the other printer. The store manager also said that I will not get the rebate.
So this deal stops at $184.00 ====instead of about $100.00

Also next week scan of staples shows HP PSC 2210 Flatbed printer for $299-$50off and then use officemax $50off$250 cupon===$200.00 and this printer is the newer models coming out smaller and better specs in my opinion. I will probably wait for this printer.

How can I go about getting The $80 gift card, if not I am returning this printer back to staples. Or anybody wants this email me to do pickup, no mail, brand new box, receipt and rebate, take your chance, I am not willing to take chance on $80 rebate rejection. pm me with your email if you want this. I am in southern california.

I don't know if I believe this stuff about no $80 rebate, but if that's true, those
of you who purchased a laptop or computer with monitor since the beginning of October
can possibly apply to HP for a $50 rebate...I think there is one of those floating around...Someone
else can probably confirm/deny...

FWIW,

The Staples in East Greenbush NY is substituting and has 2 D135s in stock (per John @ store).

If I had the need I'd jump on one, but I just can't justify it.

Hope this helps some fellow upstate NYer!

I did not get my call returned. I think I will just call back and try with a different CSR. I can't wait three days as this deal will be over when the new sales ad comes out on Sun.

links to coupons are a no-no... better remove that before you got spanked :p

on another note, anyone in orange county managed to find a store that does the substitution? I really need 1.

I was able to pick one up today. I called first and the manager told me that they had no more G85's but they were substituting with the D135.
At the store he wouldn't take the $40 off $200 because I just had the code. He did take the $30 off $150 because I printed it out and took it with me. He also said that I am not eligible for the $80 gift check rebate because of the $200 discount already applied to the D135. We shall see ;)
Oh yeah, the G85 is huge and looks very outdated.

Got 2 today at my local Staples. They didn't have any in-stock (G85 or D135), but I went ahead and paid and they will be shipped to me. They knew all about the memo and had it posted at the service desk Let me use a coupon too.

According to my conversation with the Staples manager, he claimed that they had some deal with HP on the G85 and that HP somehow screwed up and would be footing the bill for these. Don't know if it is true or not, but it sounds good to me.

Thanks for a great deal!

Wow... it actually went pretty smooth, for Staples. :)
I picked one up today. The manager offered the upgrade/swap.
(The display model of the G85 was still on the shelf)

I came armed with printed coupons. He rejected the photocopied mailers and
accepted the printed web page (30 off 150). He, and the sales person, were
surprised by the $80 in store rebate. I had to ask them to check on it. They assured
me that there wasn't one.

Feels good to get a $500 machine for less than $100...
Thanks for the heads up.

I just randomly called back to the presidents office and I got KRIS. She was more helpful than the other lady but she herself was not completely on my side. She said they could not sub unless the entire country was OOS. Then she said they might get more in. I told her the store told me it was a closeout item. Then she went to talk to someone. She came back and said they could not substitute the D135 because it too was OOS. I told her I had just seen the D135's at the store. She said to let her see what she could do about them finding me a G85. About 5 minutes later I got a call from the manager of Staples here tell ing me he had a D135 and was holding it for me. I will pick it up tomorrow.

I just bought the G85 a week ago and it's sitting at my parent's house. What differences do these printers have besides the page per minute count. I bought it for 221 after tax. I placed the order when it was 199 and with the 40 coupon. The total then was 180; they called me back 2 days later and asked for me but I wasn't home, and decided to authorize the order with an extra 40 dollars so I paid 199 plus tax. I thought it was unfair, but really needed a copier/printer. What should I do? Keep it and enjoy or is there any way I can order the D135 without having to go to Staples since I do not have one in my city. Can anyone buy two and sell me one? I tried calling Staples 3 times without success. Thanks!
