Staples has an HP G85 in their ad this week for $199, plus an $80 gift check by mail. Any stores that have completely sold out of the G85 have been told they can now use the D135 All-In-One as a replacement (but not until every G85 is sold in the store is sold, even the display model). The D135 is currently priced at $399 (just dropped in price a $100), and the cashiers should have a $200 off coupon code at the register. That's $300 off instantly (possibly more w/ coupons) and another $80 to spend on ink, CD-RW drive, etc. If the store is sold out of the D135 already (like my store was last night) then no problem, they can order it off their website and have it shipped to you for free.

I own the D135. Sadly I paid $450. Thoug I just want to say that this machine rocks. I had always went through using those free or close to free printers that you can get with hot deals but then decided to pony up some money to get a real printer. I have no regrets at all, even though it is soooo cheap.

The $80 gift card rebate should print out at the register; if not, go to Staples Rebates and do a search for rebate number: 02-52316.

Here's the Staples link to the D135 info.

Btw, the store I got this info from is located in Kansas, but the memo I saw looked like it was nationwide (or at the very least, region-wide). FWIW, FW has started a big thread about this as well.

The G85 still is available online....so the store would choose this option vs substitution

So couldn't I use a 40 off 200 and then the deal would be

199.99
- 40 coupon
--------
159.99
- 80 gift check
---------
79.99 effective price for a 300 dollar printer. That seems pretty hot.

Problem : On the staples website the G85 still shows 299. Is it only B&M? If so, I'll be on that tomorrow.

Yes, in theory you could use the $40 off coupon. Many people at FW have reported success with the $30 coupon, but YMMV. And per the title of this thread, the deal is only available through B&M. :)

I own the HP v40 all in one and it's awesome. Sure we only use it about twice a month but making copies/faxing/printing/scanning is great all from your own home.

When I was at CC B&M they have a computer which has internet access and was hooked up an HP D135 printer. I went to CompUSA.com and printed their PNY Ti4200 ad on the D135, it was fast, quiet and beautiful.

I would buy the D135 in a heart beat if I didn't own the HP v40 or needed the D135.

If you're looking for an all in one this is great!

Just got back from staples they are out of both the d80 and the d135. So they ordered the d135 for me online with the $200 discount and the $80 gift card, and let me use a $30 off $150
So out the door $170 and a $80 gift check on the way to me.
Great deal!!

now how to keep my friends from trying to sit on it and make photo-copies

:eek::p:confused:

Well I'm in SC and apparently managers here are smarter than to sell a 400 dollar printer for less than 200 bucks. I went to 3 staples in the Columbia area and all of them were OOS on the G85. I asked them if they would Price Match the D135 and they all but laughed at me and said no way possible. They offered to order the G85 online and it was OOS but still no way they'd PM the D135. One store told me the G85 was on clearance and so thered be no substituting and another store told me they'd get more cause it was still in the system so they couldn't even sell the floor model. IF someone has a receipt that this worked I might could get them to PM it. MY Priv Mess is on...Thanks anyone.

The stores rec'd a memo from Corp telling them to substitute the D135 if the G85 was sold out. I'd go back and ask them to check the memo.

I just got back with my D135 (sorry Rhodent, I'm in CA) and now I have to go back for another. I told my bro about the deal and he wants one too. So, $399.98 - $200 - $30 + $14.02 tax - $80 gift card = $104.00. This is a smoking deal :D

Is there any way I can more officially go about this than to say "You should have gotten a memo". I mean otherwise it sounds like I'm on the inside information of something and would give them more reason to not allow the deal. If maybe I could get a receipt copy or something more firm than this. Any chance of a phone order possibly working with this?

The deal is available online but the D135 is sold out in most zip codes. The only downside to ordering by phone/net is you can't use the add'l $30 off coupon.

There's nothing wrong with going in/calling and asking if they rec'd the memo from Corp saying they will substitue the D135 for the G85. If they ask how you know say you went to a different Staples and they told you.

Well, I don't think I can go in there and accuse the manager of lying. I asked if they'll PM it and they said no. I mentioned their should be a memo about it. He claims not. I dunno what else to do. If someone could PM me a receipt where this worked it would help my case a lot more. Would be much appreciated. I hope asking for that is legal cause its a legit deal or so I assume.

Manager said that HP was picking up the tab on the upgrade....heard that HP did not provide enough G85's.
Any one know if getting two and using business rewards card on both is enough to kill the $80 store cards?

Anyway I could call Staples phone orders and ask if any of this is true and if so ask for someones name or something to verify it and tell the store manager any info that might make him approve the deal?

1-800-3-STAPLE option 1

Make sure to have both SKU's of the G85 (430251) and D135 (479738) ready and your zip code as well.

ThanksROSSMAN, I knew the number to call Staples. I was more asking if this would be a wise move or a bad move. I would like to get in on the deal, but if this is something that could get the plug pulled on it. I don't want to tip anyone off to whats going on and have them end it. I dunno it just sounds too good and seems the managers around here think so as well. So maybe somewhere someone slipped and sent the wrong memo out or something. Thanks though. I guess I'll try that tomorrow.

Rhodent, you won't be tipping anyone in Staples off if you call the 800 number. They're fully aware of the deal. In all honesty the deal will probably be dead tomorrow. I say this because they'll only sell the D135 for $199 if they don't have the G85's in stock but unfortunately stores are now receiving them.

My bro and a co-worker tried to get one today and the store they went to just got a shipment of 20 G85's in. Another one of his co-workers went to a different Staples that didn't have the G85 but the Mgr refused to sell him a D135. The Mgr said he knew about the memo but said the G85's would be in any day and for him to come back then.

I ended up having to make 3 trips to Staples to pick each of them up a D135. At least this really bumped up my Business Rewards :D

Factory if you read the description further I'm sure they say the upc has been carefully removed. All you need to do is remove the upc (use a blow dryer and it peels right off, you won't need to cut the box) and send in your rebate.

eatonr using your business rewards card won't effect the rebate at all.

I tried calling Staples and they said that the G85 was a subsitute for another printer and couldn't sell me the D135. Is there an $80 gift certificate for the G85? Can anyone pm me the receipt?
