Yes, the question is really would you be able to use your monitor(s) with single link DVI? 1920x1200 at 60hz and below, yes. higher, no. Then again, if you're using HDMI I think that's single link DVI only anyhow...

My monitors' max resolutions are 1920x1080, and they're running at 60hz as well, so hopefully I'll be all set. Gotta figure out if I'll have any problems, so I can order in time for overnight shipping.

Well I am in the market for a new 22'-26' monitor or tv/monitor also...so from what I read this card only suppports up to 60 hertz refresh? I guess 120 hertz monitor wouldnt work with this or it would only refresh at 60 vs 120?

I wonder what the 6950 max hertz rate is?

Edit: Deal is dead. kill thread.

Second edit: New shell shocker deal comes up on your provided link and on newegg website, under shell shocker, however the newegg website has not updated the actual pricing on the listed card, so for a limited time you can still get it.

What you read is that a single link DVI connection as supported by the mini-DP to DVI adapters provided in the package only support 1920x1200 @60hz.

The card itself support 2560x1600 via straight mini-DP connections. No mention of refresh rate on their site. This should mean that 1920x1080p @120hz should be possible via mini-DP.

Deal is not dead, don't kill thread.

Happy Medium, can you update the link in the OP?

So the best way this puppy works is to have a monitor that has a mini-dp connection? My current monitor has dvi.

So does connecting mini-dp via a adapter to HDMI output sound or better question does mini-dp output sound as well like hdmi ports on 6950?

I will be connecting my new (once finished) pc to my 40inch tv for maximum fun.

Well, yeah... mini-DP is the native connection. You'd be spending money on adapters to go any other route, except if the included adapters fit your needs.

damn you, damn you to hell's gates and around perdition's bends.

if my video card hadnt died, i wouldnt have to buy this. 🙂

anyone have experience with sapphire rebates? Do i need to have newegg send me a formal invoice for the rebate form? I know some places dont accept the shipping form.

This would offer a huge benefit in BFBC2, but only if you have the CPU to support it, i.e., a quad-core. If you have a dual-core, your HD4830 is probably sufficient.

Yup, I have a core i7 920. I play @ 1600x1200 so i'm sure the extra RAM on top of the HUGE GPU power increase would make things butter smooth

I just bought the sapphire 5870 1gb that had been on special for a while. They'll accept the invoice you can print from your order history. My only complaint is the quick option took just as long as the slower option. Not worth it.

would this be a good upgrade from 4870X2

Yes, less power consumption too.

Well, technically, it's not an "upgrade" because the performance won't be higher than a 4870x2, but the power consumption will be lower.

You'll get 100-150% jump in frames.

Deal wise, no question. The 5870 is within 1-2% on performance, but is $80 cheaper.

I'm on Eyefinity though.. this is the best review I can find of the 2:

So apparently there is a noticable performance difference for my resolution but worth $80 or not I don't know. I'm worried if I get the 5870 2GB and want to Crossfire it next year it'll be expensive to match it.

i suppose then that its worth noting that performance scaling in CF is not as good w/ the 5xxx series AMD cards as it is w/ the 6xxx series AMD cards. this isn't at all a concern of mine b/c i'll be using this card (and others when i add them) to do DC work individually...in other words, i'll never be using multiple cards in CF or SLI to do DC work. but since you specifically mentioned the possibility of CF, its something to consider...that being said, there are probably very few games out there that are capable of maxing out 2 5870's (1GB or 2GB) in CF, provided you don't game above a particular resolution.

I upgraded from a 4830 to a 6870 and my performance increased greatly. It would do even better for you as you have an i7. Read the benchmarks I made in my sig. The 5870 is about 6-15% faster than my 6870.

And JESUS THIS DEAL IS FUCKING HOT. REGRET NOT WAITING! REGRET NOT WAITING! REGRET NOT WAITING! REGRET! REGRET! REGRET! REGRET! REGRET! REGRET! REGRET! REGRET!

Just saying...
