dead hard drive???

I just bought the Seagate Barracuda 250GB 7200.10, After several failed attempts to copy windows onto the harddrive i decided to delete the partitions through windows xp setup. The system gave me a BSOD. After that i am not able to boot ANYTHING while the HD is attached to the system. I have tried to load Seagate low level format utility through bootable cd, but it hangs while loading. As soon as the HD is disconnected everything starts working fine.

Is there anything i should try before returning this HD to the seller??
