I saw the HostPC thread, and decided you guys should see some of this. I've been hosted by OldDH since December of last year, and although there have been occasional problems, they're generally pretty good and you just can't resist this deal...I was on a pretty cheap custom account at 225MB of space and 10GB of bandwidth (among the other stuff) for $1 a month, but now I'm just amazed. Anyway, check it out, I guess.

EDIT: No longer offering hosting after 3 weeks of downtime...
 
Any more info on this? I'm goign to give the admin a PM and get a backstory going so I can see what he's all about.
 
I wouldn't put a site there if I needed it to be up, but for fooling around it might be a hot deal.

I'd be more likely to pay month to month rather than "lifetime" given how often other hosting companies have vanished, but I don't knw anything good or bad about this specific company.

I'd probably agree with you because they HAVE had some incidents like where their datacenter screwed up and reloaded the OS on their server even though they didn't request it...but since November of last year, it's been pretty good.
 
the $25 lifetime thing is kind of tempting. 🙂 must resist ...

edit: website seems very unnavigatable and unprofessional ... misspellings and broken links kinda scare me. i think i will pass for sure.
 
I guess the special deals ended anyway. Still...the free accounts are probably pretty fun to fool around with, too.
 
Aone go good cheap reliable hosts just for emails? Had Ripplehost for awhile and I guess I got what I paid for. 🙂 Really don't care about transfer limit and such, just want a reliable email server that is not DOSed to death all the time (see HostSave). Thanks.
 
I dont see how they can afford it when they rent their server from theplanet.com for anywhere from $200-$600 a month

I like hosting plans that offer unlimited bandwidth. 🙂 Mainly because once you start using to much bandwidth, your site is either to slow to be of any use or they tell you to get lost.

How have they been so far?

I see that your web hosting account is at GNAX, very nice data center in Atlanta, GA.
 
Tektonic is slow at times, but once one of their techs heard me complain about it they offered to move me to another data center (which we haven't finished the move yet). Since then they've been acceptable. Not nearly as fast as some of the dedicated servers i've worked with in the past at places like dialtone and ev1servers, but for the price they aren't bad at all and have good support. I personally like VPS over hosting accounts because of being able to edit apache yourself as needed, etc. without having the dedicated server cost. Of course don't get me wrong, dedicated servers are still great. 🙂
