Dead Gigabyte 965P S3, I assume...

I have a Gigabyte 965P-S3 paired with a e6600 running for about the last 3 months until today. I had shut off the computer to test another I was builiding for my brother and when I hooked mine back up to the monitor and keyboard - nada. No power what so ever. I pulled the board and checked it out of the box with another working power supply - nothing. I pulled everything off and still no power. It was not overclocked. All the capacitors look to be okay....:disgust:

I know that my power supply should be all right, and I'm hoping that the cpu and memory hasn't been damaged......

My question is: If I get the 965P DS3 (better quality) to replace the dead S3, it is basically the S3 with better caps - right? If so, I shouldn't have to do a clean install of Windows, right?

 
Right and right. But it wouldn't be required anyway as even if the storage controller was different there is always ye olde setup repair option or for the technically proficient editing the registry via another OS, such as a preinstalled environment.

 
Okay.... Thanks for the reply. I'll be ordering a DS3 tomorrow. Crossing my fingers that there isn't something wrong with the processor.... but, from all indications and stories I've read about the S3 reliability, seems it's a MB problem. :disgust:
