(**Dead**) Galaxy GTX 480 Videocard - $225 after $25 MIR

you're both right. guess I'll be patient and wait for something else.

What I find amusing is at the $499 price they have a limit of 10 per customer. Makes me wonder if they will drop the price again.

Gtx 480 >> gtx 470. Not only is it cherry picked, but it's still relevant today. It is built with much better components and, from the issues I've seen with gtx 570, I'd probably say that the 480 is the 3rd best single gpu card out there (580 and 6970 obviously better).

Just changed fan profiles in afterburner on my card, I can't hear the card at all over my case fans even at stock voltages. Interestingly enough, gpu gets up to 81c at all stock (default vcore is 1.025) in 4 passes of crysis demo and fan limited to 56%, but only 76c when I drop vcore to .975.

Just lowered fan profile VERY aggressively, now set to go from 35% at 30c steadily up to 45% at 70c, then another straight line up to 60% at 88c. I'll make a bit more aggressive if necessary, but this card seems like a winner.

Is everyone sending in for the rebate? As removing the UPC code from box avoids the warranty...thanks
removing the upc code from the box should not void the warranty. my video card box had two different codes and the upc code could be removed but the other one said "warranty void if removed."

EDIT: here is a pic where I have already cut out the upc code. as you can see its the other thing that says "warranty void if removed."

UPC code from your box has zero to do with warranty claims, all you need is the card to claim a warranty repair.

After several hours of gaming last night, this morning, my max temp still hasn't gone above the 83c I hit at stock vcore in crysis demo, and my max fan hasn't exceeded the 71% that it hit when it was still on the default fan settings.

you got me interested in undervolting. my card does not oc that well without additional voltage so I assumed I would not be able to lower it from 1.013 too much. well I got to .950 before I got any hiccup and at .963 it seems perfect even after loops of Metro 2033, AvP and 3DMark11. temps never went over 70C at any time but my room is a little cool today at 69 F. I think having stock clocks running at .963 is much better than having to go from 1.013 stock voltage to 1.025 for a wimpy 7% oc.

I've sent them a email to see if removal voids it as stated on label or what.

That's the label that i cut and sent in. I think it is a duplicate of the one that is on the card itself. Likely it is referring to taking the sticker off the card.

lol..I never looked on the card and now its installed in wife's pc...guess I;ll take a peak and see..thanks!

edit :no UPC code on card but does have a bar code sticker on it with the same numbers and another sticker with some numbers that says warranty void if removed.

To play safe going to wait on removing upc from box until verified by galaxy if warranty is voided by removing it fom box as stated on the upc label.

Wow $499??? I knew they'd go up some..but didn't expect that.

I have been able to oc mine to 845, and 1941 and seems stable. I upped the voltage just a hair over stock. Temps max out at 75, but I'm going to replace the thermal paste on it as well. It seems anything over 845 starts to artifact.

now how on earth are you only getting a max of 75 when overclocked by 20% and everyone else is in 80s on stock speeds? lol, that certainly is not with the fan on auto or your temp sensor is wrong.

It's probably 60 degrees or less where my pc is, and it's in a Coolermaster HAF-932 advanced. Even my i2500 @ 4.8 was topping out around 75 (with voltage @ 1.45 using a Noctua NH-D14 - that's high voltage yes, not keeping it that way). I have always suffered from heat issues in the summer with past builds so I built this system with anti heat in mind :0 I'm just getting this system up and running and still working out the tweaks though, and a few more fans to add. Considering I've been running just fine like that, I don't think the temps are wrong.

I created a new profile, but pretty much anything over 45 degrees I send it to 100% It is the loudest fan in the case lol.

Well got a reply from them but guess they just glanced at the subject and saw upc and rebate but did not read the dang email...

Them ...Thank you for contacting Galaxy Technical Support. Unfortunately we can only answer technical support issues but inquiries regarding rebates can be directed to the company that handles our rebate program.
Worldwide Rebate Inc. customer service team can be reached directly at customerservice@help.worldwiderebates.com or during normal business hours at 1-800-286-9146.

this is what I asked... Hi, I have purchased the gtx480 and it has a $25 rebate which requires the original upc code but label also states that removel voids the warranty….is this true? If so why have a rebate?

I sent them another letter and if they don't answer I'm going to call as I would rather have a warranty than the rebate.

My temps get hotter in crysis (1) demo than anything else. I havent played bf3 or metro 2033 yet, however.

@Toyota: if he aggressively ramps up his fan speed like that I totally believe it. My max fan speed before dropping my vcore (stable still at .925) was 71%, and since I dropped the vcore and changed the fan profile it is still keeping extremely cool/quiet. Haven't seen it go over 75c all day and I haven't heard the fan a single time.

If it remains stable at .925 I think I'll shoot for .899 tomorrow.

Ok, I got this card last friday or so and built out an entirely new machine with it. 8GB DDR3 1600, i7 2600, SSD drive now this. I am kicking BF3 now. The recommended BF3, auto, settings had textures on ultra and most other settings on high. I just wanted to see what would happen and put everything to ultra.....no problem at all! Every BF3 setting on Ultra! Wow, this card kicks butt! No overclocking anything here. I may overclock if I need to later, but no need to tax anything until then. Amazing amazing card! Thanks OP! Wow!

***from my thread in video***

So I decided to re-tim my heatsink again because The temps rose a couple degrees after the first time.

Boy I'm glad I did. There was about 25% of the IHS untouched with tim. I'm shocked because I really thought I was putting too much on the first time.

This time I put a much more substantial pea drop and rubbed a little inbetween the heatpipes on the contact surface. I hope I got better coverage this time. Anyhow temps went back down to about 83c under load. So about a 1 degree difference from my original factory tim temps. This is with zero set time and a 5 run loop of the Metro benchmark.

To tell you the truth what has changed the most is the fan profile. The fans are now spinning slower from about 65-67% down to just under 60% to mantain temp. I think the cards bios is programed to keep the card in the 83-84 temp range and just vary the fan speed to accomplish that.

This actually makes sense to me over just a flat out temp decrease.

What do you guys think?

Yeah, this card owns BF3 from what I can tell so far. The card feels so much smoother than the FPS indicates. I tried maxing everything out in BF3 and it's still completely smooth even though I'm getting 30-45fps mainly.

And it went up to $499? Good god! Deal of the year.

I have a feeling New Egg is systematically blowing out cards, perhaps because they don't want to sit on olf product with new releases coming out very soon . I would advise anyone who is looking for a hot deal on a card to check frequently.
