Yes, the MFR part # on the box is the same but it's an underclocked 9800 GT with DVI/VGA/HDMI outputs:

Well, that sucks. I wonder if perhaps these might have better resale value if they don't require PCI-E power connectors. I could sell them as upgrades to someone with an OEM PSU without PCI-E power connectors.

Still, it's pretty slimy of Dell to advertise one thing ("9800GT") and to ship a different product ("9800GT low-power").

Not really Dell's fault as the vid cards are drop-shipped by a distributor. Galaxy is the one building two vid cards with the same part number. :|

Speaking of which, how can we get an invoice from Dell? All I have is the order confirmation page from checkout, what Dell calls the "View/Print Cart" page. It looks pretty close to an official receipt. It's amazing that after all these years of e-commerce, Dell's site seems a bit lacking. Their order status page is bare-bones, it seems like you have to register if you want email notification of shipment; and there's no obvious place to print an invoice. I found an invoice request page that implies they'll send a pro forma invoice by snail mail.

The rebate for the 9800 GT is back online at http://galaxytech.4myrebate.com/ but YMMV: Offer Code SIC-5502 . I'm going to submit a claim but I suspect the rebate processor will nix it because the "EAN barcode" is different for the two card variants.

I think I'll give them until next Friday to ship my backordered 9600GT's before I cancel. Not expecting it to though. Maybe they'll give us adjusted invoices so we can get in on the newer rebate batches and have another month or so.
For all we know, your 9600 GT is in transit? Were you planning on submitting the April/May rebate based on the original order date; or the June/July rebate based on the shipment date?

I should be getting my backorder item today. I received an email from Dell saying it was shipped last Friday and today is my expected Delivery. I'll report which one I received. .... stay tuned

They just sent me an e-mail pushing my delivery date back, it'll be auto-canceled if I don't respond. Just gonna let this one die.

QFT.

Just received the package, how can I distinguish between a ("9800GT") vs ("9800GT low-power") if you say the part #s are the same?

edit: Just compared my barcode with that on the pdf rebate form and it matches. I guess I got lucky?

edit2: The package shows "Low Power Version 6-pin not required", similar to the link above

If you read the SD thread, this deal has become so confusing.

The original advertised product has 2xDVI/S-Video. The low-power version has DVI/VGA/HDMI. I'm actually tired of reading the SD thread but some people claimed receiving the box with the low-power sticker but having the regular 9800 GT inside. I didn't open the box to confirm what graphics card I've received.

As for the rebate, the two barcodes have a different EAN number (off by one digit). So it's possible that if we received the low-power box, we're not getting the rebate. That would suck but I'm not crying over $20. I actually like the idea of DVI/VGA/HDMI if the GPU weren't underclocked by 50 MHz.

I received the order delayed email from Dell as well, I assume in reference just to the 9600 GT OC. Since the charge has not yet showed up on my credit card and some people have recently received backordered 9600s, I'm going to take a wait & see attitude for a few more days.

I will assume I qualify for the rebate as my numbers match the EAN number. The graphic card does have DVI/VGA/HDMI. I'm alright with what I got. 🙂

I got my 9800GT today. Low power one. Sticker on the box. The card has a 6pin connector. The box also says that you don't "need" to plug in the 6pin, implying that it DOES have a 6-pin connector on the PCB. Prolly won't get the rebate, didn't expect much from WorldWideRebates anyway. The card, BTW, has 2 different fan connectors (regular/universal 3-pin (!) that the stock HSF is using (!), and a regular video card cooler connector (tiny 2 pin one, that only stock HSF normally use), so if I want to install my vf900-cu on it, the card will control the fan speed and I won't worry about finding a molex adapter or extra fan connector on my mobo, neither of which would auto tune the fan speed.) Lower clocks are easily fixed with rivatuner/atitool (all my 6 machines have it on, from GF3 to HD4870). Even with the rebate hassle, I'm very satisfied with the purchase 🙂

Two emails from Dell and an automated phone call (yesterday) asking me for permission to delay my order (and deciding to let it go), my two 9600GTOC shipped yesterday and will be here tomorrow.

Anyone have the offer code for that rebate?

Edit: SIC-5442

Is 9800GT LP that bad? It looks like you get some lower performance for much lower power consumption. It's still faster than 9600GT.

Where does it say that on the box? On my boxes, under "Minimum requirements", it lists 6-pin PCI-E power connector. It doesn't say it's optional. Did I get a normal 9800GT?

It does list DVI/VGA/HDMI on mine though.

It said it on the main front of the box, in RED splash logo..

look here:

Mine was located on the bottom right part of the box.

Nope. I don't have that sticker. Mine says "Galaxy HDMI ready" in the upper-left corner, and in the lower-left corner, "Xtreme Tuner" - fan speed control, core clock/memory clock controler, shader clock control, recovering BIOS tool.

In the upper-right corner, it just has a sticker that says "PCI express" with a picture.

Basically Dell must have had a lot of backorders and Galaxy rushed out as many graphics cards as they could get. These appear to be a recent revision of 9800 GT; the low-power sticker doesn't seem to mean much as originally thought. Most recent deliveries are for the DVI/VGA/HDMI outputs and people speculate it just might be the latest 55nm process. The UPC/EAN label should be fine for the SIC-5502 rebate.

Supposedly, 9600 GT OCs are just shipping as well; so all's well that ends well? I still wonder if these are offically considered (late) May sales or early June (ship date); and what everyone is using as official receipt(s).

Ok, apparently they ended up shipping my cards anyways. I'm gonna be cutting it pretty damn close to the rebate deadline.

How are you guys getting the 9800gt rebate? it's not on the website. of course, no one responded to my email (crapwiderebates support). and the $15 alternative rebate has been gone for 2 days now, as well. bunch of frauds.
