In store pricing only - So Cal (not sure about else where) - $158.99

You get an OEM E4300 and an ECS P4M800Pro-Mv2 Motherboard

not the best board but you're getting it for free pretty much - pick that up and a Cooler Master Hyper TX for $30 and you'll have a working combo with a decent HSF for just over $200 including tax

remember it works ddr or ddr2 and it has an agp slot but also built in graphics. I have the combo running an old install of win2k. Its a little flaky after running a few days but it was getting flaky on my old MB so I'm blaming windows. After all isn't it always windows?

The just to note the ad in LA/OC shows a RETAIL box CPU, not OEM. Make sure you point this out if they try to force a bare cpu on you.

The San Jose mercury News ad shows retail also.

the ad last week showed the same thing but they are handing out OEM (got mine last week) - picture might show a box but description doesn't say either way on it. and they have a nice little disclaimer about not being responsible for typo's so its up to them

That's still false advertising, but here's the kicker: They will claim they do not have any boxed copies.

I called the Iriving, TX store and they said it was a boxed processor...who knows. It might be, but I still doubt it.

I wonder if I can return just the motherboard from the combo.

hmmm try it out. The receipt grouped them but with separate price. 118 for the CPU and 40 for the board.

i might just try that out myself - good luck on the boxed processor, can't find that out until you get to the front of the line

It has been tried many, MANY times in the past. Fry's CSRs will never let you return one part of a CPU/motherboard combo.

Any recommendations on a MicroATX motherboard for this CPU under $140 shipped?

I am NOT a gamer and will NOT OVERCLOCK.

It must be rock solid reliable with decent onboard audio, video, FireWire, etc.

I just bought this combo at the Burbank Frys. Installed the CPU onto the mobo but it won't boot up. No beeps, nothing. Ugh.

You may need to flash the BIOS.

Ross, this Asus is probably your best bet. The P5B line from Asus is very highly regarded.

EDIT: Or go with this Gigabyte motherboard if you don't need the eSATA port. Quality from both brands is excellent and both have firewire. I'd still go with the Asus though.

Just picked this up at lunch. IT IS RETAIL BOXED at Iriving, TX store. They had 8 when I just bought mine.

Now I need a good motherboard for this...cheap, but not as cheap as this ECS board. I might keep the board for another system in the future.

How do I flash this if it doesn't even boot up. I don't have another spare CPU laying around.

damned it all...boxed...i got oem last week...no option for boxed then

but i got a "better" ecs mobo then - waiting on my P5N-E SLI right now
