I Don't understand your line of thinking, the odds of your $165 rebate rejected because you send in a copy of the UPC code instead of the original are way higher than the odds of your rebate being rejected because you used a coupon on your order. I don't want them fooling around with my $165, that to much money. I'm going to send in the original UPC code and get my money back as soon as possible and pass on that $30 upgrader rebate.

2 Questions :

Are the 16 digit Staples coupon codes unique ?
Can it only be used once online, but multiply(since they wouldnt know I think) in a B&M ?

Not really. I am taking zero risk and the worst that can happen is that I return the product for a full refund and maybe even more if they forget to deduct the coupon. That is the worse case. the best case is I get the $205 in MIR + the $30 upgrader MIR on my $170 purchase.

I have talked to two Staples.com rebate center CSRs as well as the supervisor on duty today and all told me that a copy Peachtree UPC for the $165 is ok and that coupons on your order are consider a promotion are not acceptable any longer. I also have an email response from the rebate center to that effect as well. I will be including a copy of that email along with my rebate request so they know why I am submitting a copy of the UPC . I know that Staples has been threatening this many times before and always approvied the rebate anyway, but there are just too may changes going on with Staples, their coupons, and their rebate center move to take a chance on $165. They may very well still approve a rebate if a promotion (coupon) other than the IR is showing on your receipt . However, the difference is that when my rebate gets rejected for a UPC copy I can still mail or FAX the original and still get the rebate. If my rebate gets rejected due to a coupon used I can return the product to the store or through AMEX BPP. Those who sent the original , and get rejected have just purchased one expensive piece of software without any legal recourse since the rebate TOS gives them the right to reject a rebate because of other promotions were used on the product purchased. So who's taking chances here? Either way good luck and hopefully this is a non-issue. :)

If I understand what you just posted the purchase you made in the store using a coupon will definitely be rejected because you used a coupon with your purchase, but you're still going to send in the rebateand include a copy of the UPC. Why bother since the supervisor told you the your rebate will be rejected and you are 100% sure that it will be rejected.
Also the return policy on software states "opened or defective software will be exchanged for the same title only". I've heard that you have to open the Peachtree Accounting 2003 box to get the Serial # NO DEDUP for the rebate, if so then returning the software after the rebate has been rejected wouldn't work.

Placed my order this am for the Peachtree and a 256mb DDR stick for my new Dell. It would not let me enter the code for the peachtree so I placed my order with the $50 off coupon and just called in to get a price match to my local store. The CSR said they already had the price match in the system at 165.99 I explaind that it was 199.99 less 35 and they gave me the price match at 164.99. Should be all set going forward because it is in their data base. My net cost for 489628 256MB PC2100 DDR MEMORY was 19.99 after the coupon.

ps. I have placed hundreds of orders(actually all of mine) with dollar off coupons and never had a rebate rejected........................:)

Why do people consistently ask the rebate CSRs about using coupons. STOP IT!!!! It only starts vicious rumors and makes them think that they should start not accepting those rebates.

Everyone rember to use Ebates and Upromise.com . You'll get another 4% back from Upromise, and 2% back from ebates, 4% back on your staples dividend account and 2% back on discover.

12% of $200, basically tax free:D

No, that is what the CSR and supervisor said, but Staples.com and Staples.com rebate center CSRs have also said this many times before and we still got our rebates using coupons on items that had other promotions such as IRs. I am hoping for that this is still the case, but unlike some I am not willing to gamble $165 to find out if Staples has a burr up their @ss and is now going to enforce this policy. Given the sudden changes in the enforcing of previous unenforced policies such as using IRs and a $$ coupon on the same item as they started recently. This added with a new rebate processing center in Maimi (Yes it is still Parago, but all new staff) and the 16 recent one-time use coupons that Staples is now tracking. Hopefully people using these found on the Internet are paying cash and are not stupid enough to use the Business Rewards card with their purchase, but that is another issue

As far as opening the box, I was able to open the Peachtree box and get the S/N and reaseal it as it was before ( thank goodness for Avery clear circle labels). I will have no problems returning if necessary.

SafteyDance - BTW - I never mentioned coupons and rebates to ANY of the people that I spoke with. My issue was with the fact that Staples.com has both the $165 Staples MIR and the $30 Upgrader advertised on their website and both require the original UPC. I was told that a copy for the Staples MIR is satisfactory. All three of the pesople that I spoke to and the followup and the email response that I received mentioned the coupons/rebate restriction without my ever bringing up anything about coupons and rebates.

Folks I understand the concern on not combining coupons with rebates, but yesterday I purchased two items the card reader and labtec speakers and used a coupon with my order at the store and both items printed out the rebate forms at the checkout along with two rebate receipts. I suppose the dividend checks we receive quarterly would also void a rebate since they look the same on the receipt.

Didn't we (Anandtechers) have this exact same debate about coupons and rebate a few months ago, when everyone was buying that scan that was free after a $80 MIR and a $20 coupon? I never heard anyone say that they didn't get their rebate from that deal.

For those people who want to try a PM on the VERBATIM 40x drive in-store, Buy.com is selling it for $62.71 and Outpost.com for $79.99 with $8.00 overnight shipping.

Yep, no problems. Most of us are anal about rebates. And this $165 one on software that probably none of us needs, but cannot be returned if opened and UPS removed brings it out. Its a gamble that has worked in the past. Cheaper(albeit unethical) just to find and download from Usenet for free.

I just spoke with a CSR at the Staples Rebate center, and he said to send a copy of the UPC to the Staples rebate. Since the $30 upgrade ones does not have to be sent in until December 2003, I'll wait to send that in until I get the Staples one. Once I get the $165 Staples one from a copy of the UPC, I'll send the original in with the $30 upgrade deal.

Holy crap people, chill out. I guess this is why I hang out in the other Hot Deals forum... A little more decorum and much less paranoia over there.

I have never had a Staples rebate denied even when using multiple discounts if applicable (such as a coupon and Rewards check). This includes the recent Peachtree 2002 offering, Artec DVD-Rom drive, Visioneer scanner, and many others.... all free or bucks in my wallet afterwards. This is the case with the vast majority; in fact, I've heard of nobody ever getting denied for this.

Plus, bringing attention to these things by telephoning call centers is only asking for a Policy Review by the retailers.

Grrrrrrr....

I did the deal in-store using a $40 off $200 email coupon.
$199.99 Peachtree Accounting
$19.99 Print Center Suite
$19.00 Philips 100 pack CDRs (after a PM to Best Buy $19.99 price)
$239.97 Total cost

-$165.00 Peachtree Accounting MIR
-$35.00 Instant rebate
-$20.00 Print Center Suite MIR
-$20.00 Philips CDR (Staples MIR)
-$20.00 Philips CDR (Mfg MIR)
-$40.00 Staples coupon
$300.00 Total savings

$300 saving - $239.97 cost = $60.03 back in my pocket - sales taxes on $189.97
And possible another $30 from the Peachtree Accounting upgrader MIR

And since Office Depot is near the Staples store I also did the $10 AR 60GB Hard Drive deal too. Add the Best Buy make $20, 256MB memory deal I did Friday and I would have to say it was a very good Ferengi weekend. :D :D :D :D :D

Since Staples is using a coupon code for the $35 instant rebate Peachtree Accounting 2003 you can only use either the $35 instant rebate or the $50 off $200 coupon not both.

Just using the $50 coupon the deal would be Peachtree Accounting 2003 $199.00 - $165 MIR - $50 off $200 coupon = - $15 back in your pocket before taxes.

BTW, the Verbatim rebate has finally showed up on-line at the Staples rebate site. It's under "PGI-Verbatim".
