The friend I was hoping to go with is attending the event in Fresno with several people from his company, so I won't go to that one. I MIGHT try to go to the event in Sacramento, it's actually closer than Fresno anyway. For me, the big issue is that the events are being held during finals week...and I don't know yet which days I will have final exams.

Do they give you the software at registration in the morning??? I don't think I can go the entire day, but 1/2 day I can probably swing....

At the 2005 launch we got full versions of Visual Studio 2005 Standard, SQL Server 2005 Standard edition, and a 180 day trial of Server 2003, none of which I used as I already had higher end versions of all the products.

Since then though Microsoft has released the "Express Editions" of their Visual Studio and SQL Server programs, so I could very easily see us getting a CD filled with the new 2008 express editions (that they are trying to push really hard, to get more people onto the .NET platform), and another 180 day server trial.

I did get a free shirt from HP there though, that counts for something.

At the Visual Studio 2005 launch event we got the software at the end of the day, and they were very anal about making sure you were registered, and only got one copy.

there are no limits to the number of people normally. the one i went to last year was so busy the registration took over an hour to get everybody into the center, and then they were short about 200 seats.

Take a vacation day and register as a consultant. Is there a law that prevents you from actually consulting outside of your work hours?

The only software that interests me is the Server 2008, if it's not the full version then I will not bother going at all.

My registered conference is about midway through the dates so I guess I'll wait and see if it;s worth the trip for me as it over an hour or more away.

FWIW, the last one i went to was last year and the software was office 2007. It was a full seat of whateve was below enterprise. I'd imagine it's a full server 2008 standard with a same level of SQL and VS. I've been going to these things for years and i've never seen such a lineup of software that they're handing out. They must really want to push them.

You may want to check-especially if you are a federal employee-to make sure that you will not be violating any laws or federal regulations. MS is withholding the software from gov't employees not because they want to be mean, but because they would be violating the law by doing so.

Got my confirmation (for Sacramento) a couple of days ago, and notice that the date had been changed to June.

Awesome... waiting for confirmation for the Cleveland one, and talked the boss into letting me go, and get paid for it.
