I was a HUGE cat hater - at one time, I'd just as soon run them over...

Then I kinda hooked up w/ one & found out he was a pretty cool pet :) He's pretty much like a dog - I take him for walks w/o a leash, he kinda fetches, he obeys commands (has even stopped in mid-cash of another cat when i told him), recognizes words, plays hide and seek. I now think it's all in how you interact with cats that determines how they react to you - treat them like a cat & they act like a cat, treat them like a dog & they act like a dog :)

True, dogs smell crotches, mine also goes for the butt. cats aren't as bad as i once thought, like small dogs with personallity issues.

Keep in mind that cats in the wild hunt alone or with their mate where as dogs form a pack. Dogs are raised through nature as having a sense of community, they really act like part of your family, like a child, and they dont have the attitude that cats have, dogs are eternally happy to see their owner.

I think it is how you treat the pet...my cat is ecstatic whenever I get home after leaving him on his own for more than a day. So maybe one's preconceptions shape the animal they have and in so doing affirm their perceptions of an animal.

I have a pointer. They are great dogs. Very Hyper

please do not get me wrong, i love animals, i have two kittens and a yellow lab. if u rescued this kittens i think it would be best to bring them to a spca that doesn't uthenize animals if they don't find a home that way the spca will see if the potential owners r going to be fit owners instead of u just giving them away to anyone. the spca my brother works ar doesn't uthenize animals if they don't find a home for them, and they interview and also do checks on the ppl who want to adopt their animals. unless ur going to give them to someone u personally know very well and know they r going to be good owners.

I too have had both dogs and cats. In the end, I think I have to give my vote to the cat as the preferred pet. Don't know if I read it somewhere or heard it on T.V. but there are 2 points about cats vs. dogs that always resonated with me

(As with any axioms, take these for what they are. And while truthful the majority of the time, it is not 100% accurate across the board)

1.) If you abuse or mistreat a dog, it becomes an aggressive and hostile pet. If you abuse or mistreat a cat, it F**cking leaves. That cat is out the door and gone the first chance it gets!

2.) A Dog looks and relates to a human as another member of the pack. To a dog, you are simply the dominate, biggest dog (alpha male). This is evident given the way the animal interacts with their master. Crotch sniffing, face licking, submission behavior, etc... Cats, however, don't look at humans as other cats. Cats, as a rule, don't form communal bonds (except in those areas with cat overpopulation and then only if there is an abundant enough supply of food). Cats see humans as humans. Example, when two strange cats meet up there is a lot of spitting, growling, hissing etc... Most Cats don't display that behavior when a strange human enters the room. (unlike a dog who barks at a strange human the same they would a strange dog).

Again, not espousing anything that can be proven true 100% of the time, just adding my 2 cents.

I think big wild cats are cool although I certainly woudln't want one as a pet.

LOL Reminds me of a gal I had in my high school graduating class (waaaaay back in the "olden" days). Her dad was an animal trainer for tv/movies, and they (lawfully) had a "pet cat", named Boy. Jolie told me how he was just an overgrown kitten at heart, but how much fun it would be when an overzealous door to door salesman or a group of Jehovah's Witness/ Mormons would come to the door, and just didn't get the hint that Jolie's mom just wasn't interested. Jolie told me her mom would excuse herself for a minute, and "remind" Jolie that it was time for Boy to be taken for a walk......

Imagine the double takes, when little 5'-1" Jolie would come walking around the corner of the house, leading a full grown male lion on a leash!! bwahahahahaha!! She said you'd never see someone excuse themselves so fast in your life!! LOL

So ya see, there might be the occasional advantage to owning a cat! :)

No animals were harmed during the creation of this post.

Yeah, you should really change your title to something like "Free Kitten has a home" or something instead of "DEAD: Free Kitten" :Q

Think there is any thruth to the following:

"Most" Anandtech users are computer geeks > "most" computer geeks spend a lot of time inside on a computer> A housecat is more of an "inside pet" than a dog > Therefore is is more logical to say most AT users would prefer an indoor pet like a cat? Yes I'm pulling at strings. But this is the first group of people I've ever seen that prefers cats to dogs. Maybe we should make a poll :D Editted. I made a poll at Dog vs Cat
Notice I prefaced the statement with "most". I couldn't say "all" because I know for sure of one person who hates being inside (myself).

As far as a cat cleaning it's own feces, a dogs version of dealing with sh!t is even better. They don't bother stinking up your house like a cat will. They just go outside and crap in your neighbors yard :)

you must wimps for neighbors. If your dog crapped in my yard, I would throw the crap next to your front door
My dog recycles!

Lol. When I read the title, I remembered this picture I saw in 2cpu.com forums.

It was a dead cat and someone put a free kitty sign next to it.

Hmm can;t find a link but I remember it was there.
