I also got mine a couple days ago, the decks were red and green. How festive 😉

That's what Igot - red and green. Does the color have significance?

Got mine yesterday! White and green (my favorite Magic color combination and the colors of the first Magic deck I bought!) right here 🙂

Me too. Maybe I'll build up my collection and start playing again.

There are five colors in the game: white, blue, black, red and green. Each color draws magical energy from a specific terrain type - plains, island, swamp, mountain and forest respectively.

Each color has different types of spells it can cast. For example, white is associated with law/justice/purity types of things. Blue with mental prowess and controlling other spells, black with death, disease and pain, red with chaos, impulsiveness and fire, and green with nature and life.

When you build a deck you can play with any combination of colors (or any single color) you want.

A more in depth explination of each color

Some color combos work really well together (neighboring colors on the back of the cards) like red/black, red/green, blue/green, etc.

Some of my personal fav decks I have made are:
Counter-burn (red/blue)
Overrun decks (mainly green with some supporting blue to search deck/draw cards)
Death type decks (red/black control type decks)
Infinite life gain (white/artifact/green)

Where exactly do I have to go for the free cards? I can't find the link.

EDIT: Seems like I saw this too late. 🙁

As did I.

PS to those who did get the decks, any decent cards or rares?

Everything I read about last time they did this (December?) stated that people received lands, commons, and uncommons. Makes sense for a freebie just to try and get people into the game 😛
I haven't had a chance to look through mine yet, but I got blue and white this time (blue and black last time).

same colors - put into storage now lol

no idea on how to play

It would be a hard game to learn if you don't have someone there in person to teach you.

Not to mention the amount of change the game has gone through in case you ever run into some of the old rules such as the pain is the ass banding used to be. 😉

They're actually relaunching the core set this summer as "Magic 2010" in a hope to make it simpler. Also mana burn is going away.
