Anyone see a reason why this shouldn't work with a DVI to HDMI convertor?

I want to hook it up to my LCD using HDMI.

Apparently the 7600GS does HDCP, so it should convert over to HDMI, right?

if the card is hdcp compliant, then it should work...

How fast would a pair of these SLI'ed be? As fast as a X1950Pro?
I wonder if the SLI bridge would fit though, the top of the heatsink is taller than the card's PCB, that might stretch the SLI bridge connection too much.

That's why you buy a better card for your other computer, upgrade the heatsink on that, and take the original one and put it on this.... I'm in!

I've been eye-balling that card, but am afraid of the HSF setup. The fan gets plenty of bad reviews, and aftermarket fans can cost as much as the card!

Newegg dropped the price on the 8500GT. Ordered it for $35AR, then page reloaded and BOOM! $30AR. Cancelled my order and reordered.

joined 1999 dam.

I thought I was old, how are Newegg rebates? I recall an LCD rebate I sent in, it's been 3yrs still waitin!

dont bother- SLI for the lose.
I know
I have two BFG 7900GTs
and yeah- 128MB per card kills higher PQ gaming

8500gt vs 6600gt review
7600gs vs 6600gt review

Even at $30 I don't think the 8500gt is a comparable card, especially considering the $45 rebate. Its only advantage is BFG's excellent warranty.

you guys keep comparing this to 256mb 7600gs, and this is a 128mb card

Now days most highend games require 256mb ram minimum.

128MB ram will really hurt the perfromance especially as you increase resolution.

Picked one up, this combined with the e6320 for $40 from fry's, Antec NeoHE 500, and a 500GB I have sitting around will be a good start to a new HTPC machine. I figure I'll just watch over the next few months for a good deal on case, mobo, and combo HD-DVD/Blue Ray drive and I'll be set.

Anyone know a good deal on the DVI - HDMI adapters?

The 6600gt is a 128mb card and it still outperforms the 8500gt past 1680x1050, the amount of ram isn't what matters on low end cards, pure power is most important.

FYI this card is not fanless. Possible DDR3 memory.

Got mine today and it has a big copper colored fan heat sink that only takes up the one bay. I don't really care if it has a fan or not but for anyone that does be aware it does. Have not installed it yet so I don't know how loud it is.

Also, the box barcode sticker and sticker on the card itself says it has ddr3 memory but am not sure how to verify it. I see Hynix ram chips on it.

Sticker says: "GF 7600GS VER:C(PCI-E) 128M 128BIT DDRIII HDTV/DVI"

Appears to be DOA! Corrupted screens till window logo which is fine then blank and then windows crashes with the blue memory dump screen. Theirwebsite has no bios update although the manual said there could be updates avaliable. Not real familiar with video card bios. Like to see if anyone else has issues before I RMA it so I can decide if I want to get another or a refund. Does have 128mb of ddr3 memory though, website confirms it.

note its regular DDR3- not GDDR3
I see some cheap manufactured cards are starting to use that "DDRIII"
there is a 6200 card with this new so-called "DDRIII" also
ps- sorry to hear you got a crap card 🙁 -damn shame

Um, the description says "fanless". If mine comes with a fan it's going right back at their expense since it's advertised as fanless

🙁 Sorry to hear about that. The Geeks.com site says "silent fanless cooling solution". :| If mine looks like the one on the Forsa.com.hk will definitely be complaining regardless of whether it works or not. It's clearly not what is pictured! The picture and description are of a fanless graphics card. I have taken a screenshot just in case they try to change it.

Also, the forsa.com.hk site says maximum 1900x1200 resolution (indicating single-link DVI) while Geeks.com clearly states 2560x1600 (dual-link DVI).

On the plus side, the forsa.com.hk site says "DDR3" in plain text but there is an image saying "GDDR3". Who the hell knows. Mine still won't get here till next week, I will report back when it gets here. :disgust:

Where exactly do they fit the fan on the unit ? Underneath all that heatsink ?? It must be a small fan .. I'm about an hour away from a decision of either buying or bailing on it.

it's not the same heatsink as pictures on their site
go here
http://forsa.com.hk/
and look at the 7600gs link. it's a standard single height heat sink.

The picture on their website is still not the same fan as what you get.

It is more of a round heatsink with a big fan in side. It is a very quiet fan though. Even though I had problems with mine I could not even hear the fan running even with my case open. (And I did check to make sure it was on) It was much quieter than my cpu fan. The fan is similar to this but a little bigger and more fan blades.

If mine would have worked out of the box I would have been quite happy with it. I would really like another if I know it will work. Need a couple of other people who have got theirs to post their results. I'm just trying to determine if I just got a bad one or if it is a bad batch.
