haloid > dead fantasty 2 >>> dead fantasy 1

i really liked the effects in dead fantasy 2, especially the freezing/tornado parts. the ending had me confused a bit though. i didn't like the fact that he kept on adding characters in - it's great to see them in there, but i keep waiting for somebody to die off after getting their ass kicked so hard (it's a relatively minor beef though).

overall, a fantastic job once again by monty oum! i really hope this guy gets credit he deserves, paid or otherwise 🙂

if that was "mindblowing cgi" I want my money back. ffs i can count the polys

Yes, because choreography, animation, and cinematography are useless - it's only texture-size and polygon-count that makes CGI "good."

I posted this on another forum and a guy replied who knows monty in real life. He said he was just hired by Midway as a game developer...so we can probably look forward to a few kickass cinematics in upcoming Midway games. 😉

Good for him...He certainly deserves it.

It's the law of anime: whenever the fight starts to get boring, dial it up with ever increasing deus ex machina. Eventually they'll start hurling suns at each other and shooting bullets made out of the big bang.

how did the author make it - just turn on Camtasia, to do screen capture,
and play the game for awhile, to create lots of 'raw' fight choreography.

then take the clips into a video editor to make it look like a capture of
one continuous fight scene ?

or does the video game have a 'capture' option ?

that certainly explains Dragon Ball Z!!!!

Whoa.

P.S. Why are people saying this isn't good? They're obviously supposed to look exactly like the characters as they are in the video games...

here is the reply I got elsewhere...looks like he had access to the models, but did all the choreography, lighting, environments, and camerawork himself:

"The video is mind blowing, but not because of the models. The 3D models actually have been ripped off from the actual games. The DOA models are the actual models from the games that have been ripped off. The Tifa model is from Kingdom Heart. One exception is the Rinoa model that he did himself. Since the most models are in-game models that have been optimized with low-poly counts, they greatly sped up his development process.

It's still mind boggling that he choreographed and animated all those long fights all by himself though. As someone dabbling in 3D myself, I couldn't help but go "WTH? Did you ever sleep for past five months?" I clearly wish to see him put his sight higher in future.

Monty Oum himself now works for Midway as a game designer."

as a fan of FF, that was pretty cool.
I don't get the time stop thing though, was that something Tifa could do in FF7?

thanks much for the info !

from one of the game trailers -

"This movie and many of my others, wouldn?t be possible without the under appreciated genius that is game modding. In this case finding the final fantasy models were made available by a guy out there who I get the feeling would rather remain anonymous. Let?s call him mister Y. Though I found these models and tools on a modding forum, it was Mr. Y that made it possible. And because it?s my nature to want to credit the source, I sought him out and got a very good impression that Mr. Y is VERY cautious about legalities and issues regarding model hacking. I tried several times to sum up the courage to tell him of my project, but also in my nature is being strongly influenced by words. If he had object I would have probably not been able to finish this."
