Anyone know when this deal expires? I saved it in my cart so I can dig up the $$$, but I'd hate to wait until one of the promotions expires. Awesome deal!!!

Wrong and wrong, my computer last between 2.5 to 3.5 hours depending what I'm doing, and it does get warm but it's not uncomfortable on my lap.

You sir are correct and deserve a cookie. My Dell Latitude with P4 1.8Ghz runs for about 2 hours on one battery and over 4 hours when I have the second one in it. It gets warm, but not uncomfortable. Not as good as the new Centrino's but this is definitely not the desktop P4 we're talking about.

Right on - moreover these machines are POWER - they are a little thicker and heavier than some of those ultrathin laptops, so they are not ultraportableBUT they are smoking. Performance of the PIV 5100 with 40GB drive is comparable to slightly slower 4550 (boot in about 35seconds SETI in about 3:20 vs boot in about 30s and SETI in about 3:10. 1100s are a bit slower but still good as long as you don't get the celeron and add enough memory (256 minimum, better 512)

FINALLY - those machines 1100 and 5100 have 94WHR batteries - they are huge (and heavy...) but they make the machines run between 3 and 4 hours.

DEAL Expired. Was debating on weather or not i should get it, guess i'll wait for the next Hot Deal to come by.

by the way, did anyone else notice this "REBATE! On 3Yr CompleteCare with purchase of 3Yr NBD ($169 value) [add $368 or $10/month1] Dell Recommended"

if this is saying $169 for 3 years of complete care, that's worth getting.

I don't think it is worth $169, if you buy this laptop with a Visa Platinum then Visa will extend the warranty for another year (2 years total) for free. Other credit cards do the same.

True.

Here's the links with more info, VISA and Amex.

Can someone please find extended warranty info on MasterCard.com and post a direct link? I can't find it, thanks.

Complete care covers EVERYTHING. If you beat it up, they will replace it. Complete care is, as far as I'm concerned, a bargain at that price.

Another note, the memory is currently showing up as 512MB for only $49 more over the 128 MB price. For laptop memory, this is a steal.

Yeah it seems the 512MB stick is pretty cheap, but it seems to have lost the option for a free battery

Paying 25% for insurance seems a bit steep, but if it's worth it to you that's all that matters.

Mine showed up today, it runs pretty good but it's loaded with XP/Dell/other unwanted stuff in background. When I get time I'll clean this thing up, I'll bet it's pretty fast.

Screen is nice, I did the 15" XGA.

lotso' junk software, strippo easyCD creator thinks it can burn a DVD on the drive, I doubt it.

Comments above about the battery being big and heavy are well taken, it's heavy all right.

Plugged it into the last port on my Linksys, it found the network with no issues, IE works tillI I get Mozilla on there.

Dell SB approved me for lease deal, $15/payday, I'll take it.

Overall, pretty cool deal, but better when wireless stuff rolls in.

Thanks again, dakels.

 Just so everyone knows, as dakels pointed out earlier, the manual states max mem is 1gig, but the online manual says it's 512M. I've looked around on crucial, kingston, as well as dell (memory wizard) and I suspect max is 512M . I guess that means you need to replace the standard 128M if you decide to get a 512 stick vs. adding a 256M stick (for 384M total).

if this is a intake or exhaust its not a very smart spot for it.

if you have a leg covering it the laptop could overheat, Or the dam fan will never shut off.

I had a toshiba like that... I hated it.

I got mine yesterday and slapped in a 512MB stick in addition to the 128MB that was in there already. System reported 640MB so I would say that you can push it up to 1G max.

I'm wondering if anybody has an answer for this question....I originally purchased this on 5/16/2003. They ran my credit card, but it was not entered correctly, and rejected.

Today, I got an e-mail from them stating that they would re-run my credit card (after a few e-mails from me asking them to). They ran it correctly and it was accepted. Currently, there is a $100 rebate for Dell 1100 purchases. Does anybody see why I could not get the rebate since today is my purchase date?

If so, that would be hot because I also got it for $674 as everybody else did + I got the free spare battery.

I guess I'm wondering if anybody thinks that they will put today or 3 weeks ago as my purchase date?

EDIT: Just looked online, looks like they put my purchase date as: 5/30/03 -- I'm in luck!!

wow badluck.... you got some goodluck :p And technically it's up to them to correct any mistakes since you are well within their terms to use that rebate. But don't be suprised if they don't honor it after the rebate squad looks at your invoice information. If you get it, then cool

and to everyone who got in on this deal and likes what they got: congrats and I'm happy for you. The person I got this for is thrilled especially when she thought she was going to have to pay over $1000 for a Celery system. Mawg and others, No need to thank me. I just report the deals not make them! Glad it worked out.

:)

I don't know anything about this personally but I thought it was funny that my boss' new laptop has a P4 2.4ghz CPU and a warning sticker on the bottom that says don't put laptop on lap. Hot surface may cause burns. or something along those lines. It makes me wonder though. Is this a laptop or a toaster with a built in computer?

Also can someone tell me how to use the damn quote feature. I must be retarded cuz I couldn't figure it out.

Thanks

just press the "quote" button instead of reply.... ;)

also note that it quotes everything, even quoted posts within a post your are quoting. You can also remove the extra spaces it gives you. The quote feature likes to put alot of space between your qoute and your words for some reason.

Just got my laptop from this deal in the UPS shipment today. A nice surprise upon opening the box was a blue sheet of paper telling me that because Dell was phasing out the 2.0 Ghz chips, they had built my system with a 2.2 Ghz chip at no extra charge. Yippee! Made a great deal even better. Did anyone else get the same?

I saw this same thing happening over at FW. I'm definatley getting a 2.2 since I ordered so late. Damn, this deal just keeps getting hotter.

Is this deal still on? I clicked on the link on top, i just see a celery option, no P4. And the complete care adds another 369 to the package...but rebates 169. Which nets to about 900 for the laptop. Which is not hot to me. Will someone please let me know? Thanks.

Nope - deal died the weekend after it was announced (unless you believe Dell, in which case the deal never existedin the first place). It was a hell of a deal while it lasted, though. Probably one of the nicest combo deal I've ever seen with Dell laptop (which is why I jumped on it).
