nice price. don't put the laptop on your lap top though -- to protect the next generations.

smokin deal imo. Curious about the video too, I can't seem to find it on the site, I would hope at least something like a Rage Mobility, but doubting it.

Onboard Intel Extreme graphics up to 64mb shared ram. It would be advisable to get extra SO-DDR ram for this after you purchase from Dell. You can get a stick of SO-DDR 512mb for like $70 at newegg or other vendors.

intel 845GL chipset
One very strange thing on Dell's HD information on these laptops is that the drive speeds vary on which size drive you get.

The 20gb drive is 4200rpm
The 30gb drive is 4200rpm
The 40gb drive is 5400rpm
The 60gb drive is 4200rpm

A 5400 rpm laptop drive is so much better then a 4200rpm drive

here are alot more detailed specs:

just an FYI, the dell online spec page states a max memory for the 1100 as 512mb but the PDF spec sheet/users manual states a (2x512mb) 1gig max.

The drive speed does matter for perfomance, but 4200rmp drives are quiter and produce less heat.

booooo! I'd pay money just not to have AOL preinstalled. If you want the free ISP go with Earthlink. At least you get a realy good pop-up blocker.

Wrong and wrong, my computer last between 2.5 to 3.5 hours depending what I'm doing, and it does get warm but it's not uncomfortable on my lap.

You sir are correct and deserve a cookie. My Dell Latitude with P4 1.8Ghz runs for about 2 hours on one battery and over 4 hours when I have the second one in it. It gets warm, but not uncomfortable. Not as good as the new Centrino's but this is definitely not the desktop P4 we're talking about.

Nice, looks good. I'm getting this for my cousin.

I went ahead and upgraded it to the CD-RW/DVD drive, and more Ram. I MIGHT hold off on the Ram, after a little search, to see if I can find it cheaper on HD.

Thanx!

Perhaps you should pick up one of the other >$700 laptops and tell us how much better they are.

If you get a 15.0" do yourself a huge favor and get either ....

DAMN they only offer XGA for both the 14.1 and 15, no SXGA that sucks in that case I'd get the 14.1"
